Default interior floor color - new dashes

What color should the floor pans be? Were they primered red and then sprayed black, or were they just black? I was just curious since I have the entire interior/dash out of the car.

Anybody have any info on the new dash repros? Are they any good? I have a perfect 1970 Lemans (non A/c) dash, but it needs to be rechromed and also needs new vinyl as well as the aluminum inserts along the bottom (it just has the ribs now) Not sure if it's cheaper to have that one done or buy one of the reproduction dashes.

My original dash out of the Judge was pretty beat-up. Also, is there a trick to applying the vinyl dash inserts? I tried it on another dash, but kept getting wrinkles and bubbles.

Thanks,

f.

I believe the build location has alot to do with the amount of paint on the floor pans. I have a 69 Judge built in Arlington and the floorpans have alot of Carousel Red paint on them. The paint almost covers the entire inside of the floors. This is an unrestored car with 64,000 miles and I removed the original carpet myself.

on my judge early 69 the interior floors are a specific orange/red primer... NOT carousel overspray. the only overspray would be slightly underneath. Its possible near the door jamb area but not on my car...

I'm curious about this as well as my Baltimore built 69 GTO (non-Judge) had very little overspray, just red oxide primer. My Fremont built 69 Judge, which has original carpet and sound deadener looks to have carousel painted over most of the floors as GTOJohn described on his.

As for the dash caps, I cant speak for '70s specifically, but I bought one for my '69. It had a slice in it when I unwrapped it, but I put it in place to check fit. Wasn't the best. When I called Ames to send it back, the tech pretty much told me he thought Just Dashes was the better alternative, even at three times the money.

Here are the floors on my 02B Arlington built Judge. I guess it may be red oxide primer it had been awile since I looked. At least the floors are in perfect condition.

My dash cover is OK. I wanted to know if anybody has used one fo the Parts Place new instrument dashes. It seems like buying one fo these for $350 would be less expensive than sending a core to Just Dashes, however, these repops come with the black pebble-grain finish and I have had no luck with installing one of the vinyl inserts (woodgrain for top) or the turned aluminim strip along the bottom on my original.

Anyone try one of these repops yet?

Default interior floor color

Here are a couple pictures from my Fremont built 69 Judge.
These floors were all factory original never redone. Mostly had red-oxide primer with exterior color overspray from the rockers fading in toward the tunnel areas.
A baltimore 69 GTO I did a few years ago was the same way.

Most of the 69's i have ever seen are red primer on the interior floors, under dash, package tray, and head liner area. Here are a few pictures
