Default Serious Critics ONLY..69 T/A correctness

Here's some shots of the 69 T/A being sold at the Mecum auction. Can anyone point out any overlooked discrepencies as far as fit & finish? We're trying to restore a 69 T/A as close as perfect as possible. Always nice to hear from the "experts"

Where's the messy Cameo white overspray inboard of the rockers? Hard to tell if the lighting is impersonating the look, or if the overspray is really there.

The driver's seat vinyl ribs appear a little distorted as well. Early repro seat covers were not quite as padded in the ribbing as the factory seats.

Actually it's hard to see many of the details of your resto in these photos, including these two points.

One more - the stripes ending inside the cowl panel are too long and too crisp on the bottom edge, factory typically left bottom edge paint a bit fuzzy and only about 3/8" from where it rurned into the concealed area.

This is NOT the car we're doing. This is one being auctioned. We are in the assembly phase now, and looking to make it as correct as we can. Thats why I'm asking for you to point out anything you see thats not "right". Good work....this is what I'm looking for!!!

Looks like a nice car but has the wrong Alternator, the drain plug for the oil should be on the rear of the oil pan. I don't like picking other people's cars apart mind you, but those didn't come from the factory like that.

Again....let us pick this car apart! That's exactly what I'm looking for to build a finer example. Is the alternator not the correct open front? Should the rear axle be painted black? KEEP IT COMING!!

no the axle shouldn't be painted
bare steel with a mist coat of black
on the backside OR no paint at all.
Mufflers arent OEMs either.Driveshaft looks painted too.
I agree with Glenn on the drivers seat, spotted it right away
and was thinking same.
Hard to tell much from these pictures all the hews seem to run together.

Rear springs are reproductions not OEM, they have the holes through them where the liner "pegs" protrude through VS the factory springs which have dimpled areas.

I know that I couldn't see it if it were present but the valve cover edges would have had paint on them as the engines were painted with covers installed and they had a "doghouse" plastic mask installed over the covers...

There is too much paint on the edges of the fenders in the engine compartment... remember the front sheet metal was on a buck with only about 2" of space between the edges. (very few guys are gonna actually do this)

Which rear did 69 T/A's use? The Pontiac 10 bolt or the GM Eaton 12 bolt?

By the time T/A's were being made the switch to Norwood had taken place. The rears of Camaro's were painted black... from the manufacturer, were the FB rears unpainted?

Here's what I picked out a a glance.

Oil pan bolt not in the middle (Already mentioned)
Studs instead of bolts to hold the exhaust flanges to the manifolds (Check manual)
Wrong Tranny modulator (The original is much bigger)
No pink and red paint code stripes on the drive shaft (Check manual)
Diff housing should be bare metal with a whisp of black on the bottom and cover
no foam hose cover on the heater hose (Check manual)
no foam cover on the radiator return hose (Check manual)
Incorrect Alternator
Shocks don't look like they are the correct grey color

Sweet car!! I wish mine looked that good!!

Not to be rude Tellyshavilli.
But everyone here thinks your some 1969 T/A god
But you need to go do some more research.
Because there were 12 bolt posi Firebirds & T/a's from the factory.
I will put money on the table on that bet.

I just know that I've seen that car at shows in the Chicago area a couple times and it is one beautiful Bird. I have not looked beneath it until the pictures here on PY and looking in the mirror display at shows; however, there is little I can find wrong above ground level. I only noticed the black-painted axle and pumpkin and not thought that was correct but not knowing TA build practices, I ignored it.

The reason for the 10 bolt corporate vs the 12 bolt Eaton question was because the 12 bolts came from Eaton painted Black already... so if 69 T/A's had a 12 bolt then the rear of the car in question would be correct!
