Default Finally..... My turn!!! Time to paint....

Well, after 7 years of owning this fine survivor..... it's time to get paint. So like others, I wanted to have a thread documenting the ups and downs of this journey. Took some photos the other day to remember where I started....

Car will be painted at the dealership I work at, but will have an outside vendor to Soda Blast body....

I will try and handle the trim removal the best I can, but I am sure I will have questions.... Bodyshop is doing the rest, I will just document...

The car was a "Special Order" paint vehicle, Buick Riveria Charcoal Gray, and will of course be painted back that color.

One of the things I am gonna change is the roof. I want to try the car as a Two Tone look, so I will have the roof painted Gloss Black. If I decide I dont like it, I can always have the vinyl roof reinstalled.

I spent some time on Sunday removing the interior, and tonite I removed the door panels.

I also fiddled around with some trim......

The windshield and rear window trim are already starting to give me fits.... I borrowed the correct tool from one of my techs, but I am having issues.....

Advice and comments will always be appreciated....

So let the journey begin....

Looks like you have a great car to start with. Remember to bag and tag everything you take off the car.Even if you don't plan to reuse some of the stuff, it is good to know where it came from. Take time to do it right now, and you won't have to guess where it goes later. I even put the screws in a plastic case seperated and tagged as to where they go. And, some of them I taped to the piece they go with. And, take lots and lots of pics from different angles, close-ups and overall shots. I store mine on a flash drive.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Bought a box of zip lock bags and a freash marker to store every screw and where they came from. Even tagging some of the obvious parts as to where and which side of the car they came off of......

Plenty of rust around the rear window trim when I got at least the 2 upper window trim pieces off...... in fact, cant even tell what the clips looked like.....

Should not need any panel replacement, but I expect rot around front and rear windows.... sail panels and bottom of inner rear 1/4's

Steelies will most likely be gone when done......... 17" rims will be the cherry on top when done....

I am not too sure if 17" rims will compliment your vintage goat. I would be more inclined to go peroid correct. Maybe borrow a set of 15's from a friend and take a look before spending your hard earned dollars on a set that may not do your car justice. 17" sound gangsta / pimp my ride to me. 15's are the next size up from factory and will fill the wheel well nicely in my opinion but I am old school anyhow. The current set up of dog dishes and steel wheels looks nice too. A set of the old Crager SS's should look vintage and flashy for your dark color choice of paint as well. What about paining your steel wheels body color and running the dog dishes ? 17's are a hard sell to me on a classic goat.

Oh, I am not set on the 17".....

I have a real true love for RWL tires, so staying with 15" does appeal to me also....

In fact, the Crager idea has been thought of.....

This part wont be decided until EVERYTHING else is completed on the body....LOL

Nut, 15" Cragars will look great on her. That is a nice looking Goat and looks to be in very good shape too.

BTW... that Riveria Charcoal Gray looks great too. Are you using basecoat/clearcoat?

Good luck and be patient Troy! Cragers or any chrome mag wheel will look sweet on there. As for the window trim, I can tell ya never force that clip tool up in there, it will form a crack in the windshield....lesson learned

Good luck with the freshening up. The color will be a killer with nice bright wheels. Kind of hung up on Ralley I or Torque Thrust II wheels, with the lower chrome.

when i had mine done, i wondered how it would look to just paint the roof and not
not do the vinyl top, but figured the i would have to fill in the holes where the vinyl trim would clip on and re open if i wanted the top put back on.
also, cragars are the way to go. just my 2 cents worth..
your car looks great now! are u sure it needs a paint job?

Thats the great thing about going the Two Tone look...... When the factory did this, they kept the vinyl roof trim, this was the break between the 2 colors..... so nothing I will do will alter the car.....

If I hate the look, I just reinstall the vinyl...... simple

I am all for the modern 17" rims look, but on this one, I think it looks so menicingly understated and should stay that way. The car really does look tough. I love those Dog Dish Hub Caps. I would leave it like that personally. Again, I am usually the one to say go with the larger rims as long as they are tastefull, but on your car why mess with a good thing. Just lose the pin stripe, your not scoring any points with that one in my opinion. Great car and best of luck with it!

I think these would look good on your car. Torq Thrust D's with the gray spokes.

You sound like my dad. Exactly. "Pimp my Ride" would do chrome 22" wheels on it. Gangsta would be 26's.

A 17" wheel can be done on these cars & still look good. When somone does a 17" wheel with a very short sidewall is when they look bad. A proper sidewall would look great on a 17" wheel. Cragar's are old skool & 'overdone' for these cars. Not trying to diss anyone's car, either.

BTW, I love the dog dish caps. They are perfect on the '64-'67 GTOs, LeMans, Tempest's.
