Default window sweeps

Can anyone explain the differences between the aftermarket style and oem style window sweeps? Anyone have pictures of either style? The catalogs just don't show nor explain this well enough for me. Is it really just a minor cosmetic difference of the chrome bead being flat vs round? Who would ever notice something that subtle other than a concours judge! I'm resto-mod ing my '67 Lemans, so I'm not that concerned with nuts and bolts correctness. I am however concerned with good fit, function, and quality.

Someone else may know different, but I have seen differences in the chrome bead. I understand that the proper round bead is also available on some repos.

I used the pui sweeps on my 67 lemans, they were part of a weatherstrip kit I bought from ames. They have the round bead and fit like the ones that came off the car.

Ronnie, did the screws come in the kit from Ames. That's one of my projects this summer... replace the all the window sweeps. The left rear qtr inside sweep is missing on mine and I'll need the screws too.

Hi Lee,
As far as fit and functionality they are the same. The only difference is the original style ones have the correct rounded style chrome bead and the replacement ones have a flat and square bead.

Very timely topic, as my car is just about stripped and getting paint soon....

I bought some window sweeps for my 66 GTO from a company called Steele I think. They are the wiper blade type. You cut to the length you need. I then rivited them to my beltline moldings and installed them as one whole unit. Nice tight fit and no water gets down in the door. I know it is not correct, but I wasn't thrilled with the fit of the aftermarket window fuzzies.
