College Recruiting for Sports?
My son is going to be a Senior next year, and he is a swimmer. He is no Michael Phelps, but he is above average. He is ranked in the 11% bracket in his class, and he is carrying a 4.5171 GPA on a 4.0+ scale. He is in the National Honor Society. Anyway, there is one college that my son was interested in, and we filled out their prospective student form last year, and have a gotten a couple of e-mails back from them off and on over the last year, nothing big, just like a "Hey how is your swimming year going" kind of stuff. Well on Tuesday of this week I got an e-mail from this College, and it said "Hello (My sons name) I just wanted to let you know that I will be recruiting you over this year." Then it goes on to say how excited this coach is about what this college can offer my son, you know blah, blah, blah. What the he** does this mean? Are they going to help with costs?, or are they just buttering me up to open my wallet and send my son to their institution?
My understanding of recruiting is: Hey, we want you to come play for us, so we are willing to do this. Is this not the case?
