Default Blower motor Bench Test Question

I was testing the heater blower motor for my 75 Firebird with a/c
I ran 2 wires to the battery to see if it would move and it does spin fast, but
the terminals on the motor where I held the wire ends got kind of warm after a few seconds.

Is this Normal or Bad? I'm thinking its bad...I hope I did not damage the motor?

The wiring diagram shows the high speed blower setting to take the Voltage directly from the Alternator, so I did not think hooking up 12 volts would hurt the motor.

What would cause the heat if the motor runs fine and does not squeel?
Am I missing something with the blower motor resistor?

Any advice? I'd rather not buy a new motor if I dont have to.

Thanks -Jason

The smaller the guage of wire you use to test will create more heat. Adding resistance to that is the "temporary" style connector you hooked it up with. If the motor sounds fine with no noise then you're good to go. Ignore the heat from your hook-up wire.

Makes sense, I used 14 gague speaker wire
and held it to the terminals with my thumbs

Like I said it was a "quickie test"

Thanks for the reply - Jason
