What exactly do you need a picture of? Both my doors are without trim right now. What hole are you looking for?

On a few Pontiacs, it seems the beltline molding had a clip in the very front holding the front edge. You don't have to remove the vent window to remove the beltline molding. Personally, I have never seen a GTO or Lemans with the clips, but it is quite common in the Oldsmobile A-bodies. The clip slides back and forth in the molding, so the location is not that critical. If you have the clips, you should be able to figure out a spot to drill.

Car is already painted and owner just brought me these moldings with the clip. This molding has provisions for the hidden screw also.
I may forgo(remove) the clip and use screw and 3M doubleback tape. All I want is a pic of the hole in door top so the owner can make the choice of either or both mounting methods. Im now cussing the junk outer fuzzies that PUI provided. So far gluing them on,along with screws, seems like the only option. |

I have 7 doors and an NOS door skin and none came with the hole you describe. Have you looked at a Fisher body or assembly manual to see if it shows how the trim attaches? The reason I ask is because way too often replacement trim comes with completely incorrect fasteners.

The doors I got my moldings off of had the clips & they are in excellent condition (clips). My doors are not drilled for a clip. As far as I know, the pass door is original to the car. I know for certain that the driver's door was replaced, as someone backed into the car a month or so after my dad bought it. I found it interesting that neither of these doors had the hole for the clip.
I put my moldings on without a clip or a screw because I want to re-polish them over the winter & see about getting them anodized. It's not impossible to remove the clip with the door assembled, but it is kind of tricky, especially to do it without breaking the clip. The moldings fit pretty snug even without the clip. I gave the junk doors to my buddy. I'm sure I could get a measurement or even pics if needed.

This is the only hole I could find. It was on the driver's side door. My passenger side did not have the hole but, it is a replacement.
If this is the hole you are talking about there should be a dimple in your door where it goes. When I took the trim off my doors there was no clip in this hole. There was a screw that went through the beltline molding.

heres a pic of the clip. Hole in door would be on top not on the side,
As you can see the molding also has the slotted hole that a screw can go thru. I remember running across this before many years ago,may even have some trim left with the clips that are like this. Also in pic is a screw removed from one of my parts cars. This screw goes thru the dewwipe fuzzies and the molding and holds both on the door. note the conical washer on the head. My next question would be what is the screw that is in the front hole and is hidden by the wing vent? The trim parts shows same screw front and rear of the molding but it doesnt make sense to use a screw shaped like this on a flat surface. Last edited by Cammer-6; 09-01-2009 at 05:33 AM. |

None of my doors have the hole on top. I can't remember what screw I took out of the end but what would it matter to put a regular flat screw back in? That's what I plan on doing.

My '67 lemans had the hole in the original driver's door, but the passengers door had been replaced with a 66 door that did not have the hole. I also have a "spare" '67 gto passenger door that I expected to have the clip, but it didn't. So, after I added the hole to the passenger door I had to make my own clip because my spare door didn't have one.
I checked my pictures here at work and I don't have any that show the hole. I'll try to remember to check my pics at home. I already have the trim installed now. |

I forgot to add that I don't know if my junk doors were '66 or '67. They could be '67 doors. Do you want pics/measurements?

wondering if this was plant specific or a later running change for 67 such as the lower rocker trim.

Just removed the molding from my 66 LeMans. Has the hole as pictured and uses the same clip.
