Need some Ford help no start
Have a 1993 Mustang GT 5.0 auto, daughters car. I was driving it the other day and while cruising it stumbled a couple of times then just shut off. Hit the key, fires and dies. Got it home, fires up, park it. After work pull closer to garage, runs for about a minute, then starts same thing. Let sit for awhile, run for 30 sec then dies. Put in new module and pickup, now wont start at all. Dont remember what it is called, but disconnected the pigtail to set timing, now it runs. Only runs with this disconnected. If I plug it back in wont even try to start. Any thoughts? Computor? Thanks Tom.

YOu need to find out if it's losing spark or injector pulse or both.
Also is there a SES light on.

Plug for setting timing is called a spout connector. Need to get it scanned for codes. Also need to check the fuel pressure/ possible bad fuel pump/ plugged fuel filter. If filter is plugged. plan on putting in a fuel pump also.

No lights on. With spout connector disconnected car runs fine. With it connected the fuel pump comes on,when key is turned on. While cranking car fires then dies. Has plenty of spark, while cranking. Fuel filter has been changed, not recently, but not OE .

You'd have to think the module (or less likely, pickup) are wrong, defective or have a bad connection to them.

I'll bet it's an ignition module or Spark retard module. DIAGNOS it first thos don't waste money on a guess.

93 would be the OBD1 diag connector. Get it scanned first to check for codes & go from there.

update
Had car checked out. No light, no codes, had voltage at spout connector, suppose to be ground. Computer, none to be found. Sent to Cardone, through Rock Auto, for repair. Got it back yesterday. Runs great now. Got inspected, passed emissions, put about 40 miles on it today.
Have car sold, was delivering it when it died. Hope he still wants it. Have had this car for ten years, first time it had to be towed. |
