Default MCs-disc/disc vs disc/drum

Is there any difference between a disc/disc and a disc/drum MC, other than a residual valve on the drum port? Is it necessary to change to a disc/disc MC when going to 4whl disc from fronts only?

The fluid reservoir will be larger for rear disc brakes than with drum brakes.
