'63 Tempest El Camino style pick up....Amazing
Returning back from a car show in Santa Maria, CA and stopped in Ventura for dinner. There in the parking lot of Joe's Crab Shack was a '63 Tempest pick up. It was a wagon shortened to make it a 2 door and the rear roof removed exposing the bed of the truck. It looked like Pontiac's version of the El Camino! This thing was amazing and professionally done. No flaws and the roof/rear window looked factory. Does anyone out there know who this guy is? I would love to get a couple of pictures of this car, er, truck.

Wife was babbling on it in the restraunt a couple of blocks away. This was one of those "Life" moments that I vow will NEVER happen again. This car was something I have never seen before. I was hoping someone out there knows the car. This would be a great investment for someone that wanted a wagon project. I would almost be willing to give up my '60 Ventura for one.

My curiosity is aroused. Is there possibly a firm doing this type of conversion?
At one of our cruises here on the east coast a guy showed up with a -56- Ford Ranchero. Whoever, started with a 56 Crown Vic and did the same thing cutting down the back and opening up the trunk. That sucker looked as professional as if Ford had done it - 56 side trim pieces and all the chrome trim in and around the bed! I have a couple pics I could put up but not sure how to post on the forum. Are there directions somewhere?? |

This car is now an obsession with me, I want to build one so bad right now. It is practical, stylish, and damn cool! Someone out there has to have some info on one.

If there was someone somewhere with like a bunch of '63 Tempest wagons that would be a really cool project. (Dave?)

Well... I have 1 extra with no plans and hammered enough to justify a slice and dice. It will be years before I can get to it though. I'm not against moving up a project like this if someone bought the car and hired me to do the build. I studied the car after reading this post and have body work ideas already laid out. However, I'm meeting with a potential client Saturday regarding a '59 Caddy build, which will take at least 1500 hours. All this after 200 hours of work to finish the shop build. Still have the mezzanine to finish, spray booth install and a few other things. Might be time to hire some more help!... Or quit the day job.
