The carbs came in today so I de-badged them and removed the electric choke mechanisms. I think Axle was right. The Carter style carb was the way to go and glad I did some digging into what was available. These Gold Dichromate finish marine carbs fit the 60's look I'm trying my best to stick with.

I got the steering wheel mounted and the shock mounts welded in today. My boy was helping me with both. I love it when he hangs out with me in the shop. Going to work on the fuel system tomorrow.

Dill are you using and adapting the original wiring harness or are you running all new custom wiring? If custom I'm wondering what you are going with? Mark L

Your son will never forget the times he spent being with you and helping build the Goat.
Not only that, you are building that lasting Father-Son bond, teaching him valuable life lessons, skills and how to use proper safety equipment.

You should be proud!!

-Don

BTW The Goat is coming along nicely!

Thanks Don, and yes, I'm am one proud Dad. I tell him all the time how much I love the time we spend together whether we are just watching TV, playing Gran Turismo on Play station, working on stuff in the garage, involved with Cub Scouts etc. I didn't go to the drags all year last year. When my car is down I get depressed going and just watching, so he hadn't been in about a year and a half. He's 8 now. Well I took him to the Friday night Test N Tune Drags here at Tulsa Raceway Park this last Friday night. I can't even begin to tell you how excited he was. He thought that was the coolest thing we've ever done. There was a great turnout. One team showed up with 2) 6 second Pro Mod 70 Dodge Challengers and someone else with a 6 second Pro Stock style Chevy S10 pick up with NOS and of course the huge 3 stage purge at the line is always a big show so that was way cool for him. And a bunch of 9 second crotch rocket bikes, and all the local talent. A good variety. Back to the Challengers in the pits. We were checking them out and they had just made a pass with one of them and the other was a brand new car altogether. They were running the engine on the new one, checking timing and such. Big Brad Anderson Hemi deal with a carbon fiber injector and a huge blanketed blower. So we're watching the operation and my boy asks one of the crew which one is faster. That's when we learned about one being a brand new set up. So the guy asks my boy if he'd like to come sit in the one that just made a pass. Woah man,,,, that was the icing on the cake. Talk about a cool boys night out. Like you said, times to remember.

Mark, I'm running my own wiring only because I have more wire than I have $$$ to buy like a Painless type harness deal.

Well this one is a first, and I've been saving it for the last part of the major body work. One of the "Genius" previous owners decided it would be best to glue asphalt roofing material over the rusted out trunk floor. Hey, I guess if it'll keep water outta your house it'll keep water outta your trunk right ? The floor is so bad that the first time I tried to open the trunk the latch was hanginging up. So I gave it a big jerk and the entire trunk latch assembly came loose from the floor and stayed connected to the deck lid. So now I'll cut it all out and start fabbing up the mount for the fuel cell.

Sat 4/22. I tapped the scoop base so I could get that mounted and finished. The throttle linkage is complete. I had Chuck at CW Auto Fab redrill the factory axles from a 5 on 4 3/4 to a 5 on 4 1/2 to fit the rear wheels my friend Nick gave me. I got them installed, put the brakes back together and got the wheels on the car. Both fenders are back on and the nose is bolted back into place. I had to trim the lower edge of the fender just in front of the wheel since the axle is forward a bit. Also had to cut just a little of the inner bend right where the header collector is. Came out a little on the close side. I also got the headlight buckets mounted that my friend Andre sent me since the car didn't have any when I bought it.

I still have to fab up some shock mounts to fit the new coil over shocks and get the a$$ end raised up a bit. Right now she's sitting on heated, collapsed coil springs. The good news is that all of my measurements worked out okay and I got the right size tires. They clear all the way around

Dil,
The car is coming along nicely! Can't wait to see the finished project.

Hey, what diameter steering wheel do you have with that manual steering box?
I just finished changing my FB over to manual from PS and, have a 13" steering wheel.
I'm thinking about getting a 15" wheel. Don't really want to get a 17".
Guess I'll just need to man-up on this one.. LOL...

Looking good Dil.
Will you have any issue registering the car with the motor sitting that high? What scoop are you using? I'm looking for an un-polished scoop for my build. Like you, I went with the unpolished blower because I like the look better.

Rob...

Hi Joe, I put a 15" wheel in. It looks good and feels about right.

I shouldn't have any issues registering the car here in Ok. I've seen some pretty jacked up stuff on the road here. I'll keep you posted.

Looking good! Now that you have a "truck fork" under the front you need some "air shockers" in the rear to bring it up

I got the grills in this morning but they are kinda rough and pitted. I know the aluminum can polish up pretty well so I may have that done down the road. They look okay since the car is just in primer right now.

Do any of you guys have a preference for a paint that loooks like a good aluminum ? Not that metallic siver she'ite.

I also need a couple of T3 low beams. I know they sell complete T3 headlight sets but I don't have the $$ to spend for a whole set. I had the 2 new hi beams left over from the 66 convertible build so I'm good there. Anyone have a couple of old ones that work ? Gotta have the T3's for this baby.

4/24, I just wasn't diggin the way the chrome center caps were lookin on the rear wheels. I was remembering seeing some flat type caps on some old race cars somewhere so I started looking around the net trying to find something for my wheels. Found some for $120.00. They look cool but too much for my wallet right now so I did the next best thing with my primitive tools.

I pulled a piece of aluminum out of one of my scrap metal boxes and went to town. First I traced the base of the American center cap with a marker. Then stuck a drill bit in the mounting holes to mark where I needed to drill. Then cut the main shape out with my jigsaw. Next was grind some of the extra off with my 4" grinder with a sanding disc, then touch it up with the dremel with a sanding drum. Next I drilled the holes with a 3/16" bit in the drill press, then over the top of those holes with a 5/16" to get some bevel for the bevel allen head mounting screws. Took me about an hour to make 2 of them.

What do you think ? Like'em better than the chrome caps or not ?

I like your home made covers better - looks more authentic/nostalgic. Nice job
