Looks like my '85 is #1 on this list. And by the way, I forget who asked where my truck was built because he worked for Chevy, but it was built in Flint.

Would have added the 1925 Model T pickup, the 47-55 Chevrolet Advance Design, Jeep Scrambler and mayber Hudson or Studebaker pickups.

Probably me. I was there in '85, so I may have had a hand in it (or, was leaning on the supervisor's desk when it went by!).

Not too many people are aware that "the Lil' Red Express" was actually the fastest production vehicle available in North America in 1978.

Don't know how fast it was but that must have been a real exciting ride!

I quit reading that about 5-6 articles in and posted last nite. I see the system ate antoher one!

Anyhow, I'll agree with the Chevy and Ford being 1-2, doesn't really matter which is where as they're pretty equal as long as they're straight axle equipt. Gm beats the Ford because of that ****ty twin I bean chassis in the 2wds.
Dodge should've come long before that Toyota and IH should've followed Dodge for the simple reason they quit building pickups in 76. If they'd have continued none of the above would've touched them in the ability to take a beating and keep running.

Also GMC should've been lumped in the GM camp after 1967.

It was a nice truck. I purchased a new '79 Model (Dodge only made them in 1978 & 1979) back in the day and it went pretty good for the time. Had a 360 cu. in. Police Interceptor engine with huge Thermoquad carb. It was a pig on gas (about 8 mph in the city) but it hauled and the sound out of the 2 chrome stacks was great. I paid $9500.00 Canadian for it in 1979 and they've held their value pretty well. Sure had fun with it.

True.Dodge made a truck that was faster than the Corvette. It was more comfortable and PROBABLY handled better too.

Neigbor had a Dodge WARLOCK Pickup with a 440 in it. It was for damned sure faster than the Vette of the time and a lot more comfortable.

I'm having a hard time believing that Lil red wagon truck was faster than a 78 T/A.

Cool This one will never fly.....

.....but it will haul 1 ton around quite nicely for a truck that weighs in at only 2400 pounds empty.

Just don't expect it to yank your ski boat out of the lake.

They can print what they want, but a friend bought a brand new lil red express, and my 78 WS6/W72 TA walked it. To be honest I did have the cat off at that point, but the rest was bone stock. They would beat a Z28 or a non W72 TA.

I also took out a L82 Vette, 4 times in a row one night, that was one pissed Vette owner.

Trucks, my favorite has always been the 71 (I think) International Travelall I grew up with. That thing was all metal and would go anywhere it wanted to go!

IMHO, the newer GM trucks I've owned with the Duramax were too refined. I want a truck to be a truck, like my 86 F250 HD...

Both Motor Trend and Car & Driver had 1/4 mile times of 14.97 for the Lil Red Express. There were some quotes of 14.70 times but the Dodge website said those were prototype non production trucks. (Holley carbs, etc) Best I could find for the WS6/W72 Trans AM was 15.2 in the spring 78 Road Test Magazine. Other magazines had indicated higher times for the T/A.

I don't doubt what the articles said. I just didn't find the real world results as impressive.
