Default Project '72 Ventura

Took my ventura to a friends shop to do a cam,oil pump, timing chain and a intake swap. It's my daily driver with only 70,000 miles and i wanted to make some changes. Well it getting them now and more,#8 lobe on the cam was totally round, that explains my erractic idle and a couple others were also worn but not as bad.The shortblock was pretty clean and almost no wear at all. The heads were OK,a couple of the exhaust valves were a little worn like it had an exhaust leak before. Here is a before video and pics of the motor apart today.
Does anyone know "for sure" what cc a 7H1 heads are,i have heard 80cc but compare to a 1969 "46" casting head with 72 cc. There is no way in h*ll they are a 80 cc head.

Video

Pics, and no i'm not the one who did the crappy paint job on the engine

Thank you thank you thank you, 74SDformula for all the hard work he is doing to my Ventura. He sent me some pics of the progress and with 2 cars in the shop it sure feels nice not to have the headaches. The heads (7H1) now have been cut and are a 85cc and now have the end bolt holes for the exhaust.

Going to disc toward the end of the year. The Ventura is my daily driver so i have been thumbing rides to work for the last 2 months. Also converting the Ventura to non air although it's probably not a good idea living in the south.

Oh man I wished I had the air your removing. Wife has lung disease and I have been wanting to put air in our 71. Only problem might be that our Ventura came with Chevy smallblock. Mike

Yeah,i opened up a can of worms but it still stock bore, heads are now a 85cc,went with a '72 stock 4 bbl intake. The trans was rebuilt using all B&M parts and a 2200 stall. I also have a 3.23 gear sitting in the box here at the house.

Got the Ventura running and driving today and after changing the springs in the dist and getting the carb set it felt pretty good. Put about 20 miles on the motor, nexts up 3.23 gear and the disc brakes.

500 miles on the break-in and the Ventura had it 1st hard test run today. It has an erratic idle which i think is just it needs a carb ajustment. I'll be racing it against a friends '74 SD formula next month at Silver Dollar dragstrip in Reynolds,Ga but without the gear change i think i have butt whipping coming my way.

Sounds good. Really close to what my car sounds like. lol
What heads did you end up going with? And what cam choice? I think you will like the gear up grade once done. That little 350 will hold its own for what it is. Lets use know how it turns out for you. And have fun with a daily driver.

Took the Ventura to the track and was pretty happy with the way in ran in the 1/8 but the 1/4 sucked. I have been thinking there is a fuel problem and tonight i pretty sure it's running out of fuel.It just dies after the 1/8th mile.
Original 350 stock rods and pistons that it came with back in 1972
7h1 heads stock cut to 85 cc
Melling 068 cam
turbo 350 2500 stall
3.23 single track

60' 2.07
1/8 9.24 @ 74 mph
1/4 14.59 @ 90
It should be running 14.30's with the 9.24 1/8 mile.

Is there anyone else here who has experience the same problem?
