Default What shocks are you guys running?

My 78 has Monroe Monro-matics and it feels really mushy. Thinking of going to KYB. I don't have the budget for QA1s or anything that radical.

LOL, Yeah I saw where she just posted that. Dad has those CE 3 ways on his 71 and it's mega stiff. For $50 it's worth a shot.

I've used the KYB gas adjust shocks on several other vehicles, not my T/A, and really liked them.

My car currently has a set of gas charged Gabriels, that have been on it for about 25 years. They were SO VERY much better than the stockers that came off. When I installed the Gabriels I had to put the fronts on and drive my to work, in a hurry, the difference between the front and back shocks "drive" was amazingly different (much better on the front's w/ the new Gabriels...)

As tomasmoto said - go with the Bilsteins.Got mine from the shock warehouse about two years ago for $299 & free shipping. Haven't had any experience with KYB shocks, but i've had bad luck with their stuts. Two sets on my daily drivers had one of the stuts develope a leak within 25000 miles. I"ll never buy them again.

I looked at the Bilstein web page for my 69 GTO, and there were just a ton of possible shocks to buy.
Any suggestions for Bilsteins for street-some strip use?

Friend of mine has KYBs on his '78 SE T/A, said they performed great and he actually had the same Monroes on his car that I have on mine now. He stated the KYBs had to be at least 40% stiffer than the monroe. For the cost I think I'll try the KYBs. As many of these cars as I build I can always move the KYBs to something else if I don't like them.

Update, installed my KYBs this morning. I can't believe the differance. The one I removed from the rear passenger side was toast. It was stuck in the compressed position. It was hard as hell to pull it back to an extended position and it took no effort whatsoever to compress it. KYBs all the way.

i love Tokico's myself
i've had the higher end Monroe's and Gabriels, just like the Tokico firmness

Monroe used to make a really good shock back in the day (formula GP's)
not sure if they are around
Bilstiens would be my next choice

Cut a 1/2 coil out of the front springs this afternoon. Car rides and sits way better.

The Monroe GP's have not been available for quite a while (around 15 years???) I got a set of fronts ( around 1995) for my T/A in future, need rears, that should be interesting...

Well, here's the car as it sits now. Between the new shocks and the lowered front it feels like a race car. I drove it pretty much all day yesterday and plan on putting some miles on it today. I plan on running this exact setup in future cars also.

I've got Bilsteins up front, looking to put in the rear soon. Major difference in how the car handles. Of course, the ones I replaced were worn and old.

I got a competition engineering cage and used just the hoop, hoop brace and rear down tubes.
