Default Tempest GTO Anti-Theft Hood latch assembly

I have a NOS Tempest GTO Hood-Latch Assembly with the box and directions and templates and started to measure things out to see if I could install it and seems I am missing the new rod as it is longer I guess..

It says to discard the old latch and rod? Like I would do that now a days lol

Anyone out there have this option?.. I Would like to fab up another rod so I can install this but if not I might just have to evil bay it

That looks to be an interior hood release. My Judge has the factory installed hood lock but once you release the lock you still have to open the hood using the normal hood release.

Thanks ! Would you be able to measure the length of the release rod? Or does it pull from the upper side of the drivers side Grill? This one one looks like it would be just over 16 inches and pull below the bumper

I too have this on my 70 judge. My pull rod exits the top passenger side grille insert and measures just about 7.5" in length. As stated by wakepowell the pull cable releases the first latch (or lock) then you must pull the rod to release the latch completely to open the hood.

My cable has recently broke . Anyone know where I might be able to find a replacement??

Are you able to take a picture of that exit and maybe the rod? I never noticed before but maybe there is a provision for the exit after taking off the upper corner of the passenger grill.. I will have to look at my spare grills.... I think you can go to a motorcycle shop and bring in your cable and have it repaired.. There is an aftermarket one out there but its all wrong compared to this NOS one I have , here is a link to one

http://www.opgi.com/p/steel-body-pan...0/C240172.html

one on ebay but it looks different but closer

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1970-1980-Or...079692&vxp=mtr

At the price I think the motorcycle shop is your best bet or someone who has a cable maker.. lawnmower shop, bike shop etc...

Or if I can't fab up a pull rod I will be selling this one

Pete

you're in luck! I've recently disassembled the front end to do resto work so getting the pics was easy. Hope this helps

Awesome!! Where does the pull rod bracket bolt to when its used for the passenger side grill.. I guess I could cut that out like the other one.. Still on a fence on whether to go this route or keep my regular one

Just wondering, , , , Was this a dealer install item (add-on) only or part of some kind of some option group package? I'm not seeing any reference to this type of hood latch in my PHS paperwork.

I am not sure.. I would say its a dealer option with what it says on the directions.. I will Put the directions I have up here with the pics of the cable soon

I have an inboard tach on mine and on the PHS it shows a clock.. So I am thinking a dealer swapped it out as I traced it back to the origional owner and it was in it when he bought it new

Here is the end of the cable. Darn iPhone will only let me upload one pic at a time so I will get the test in the am. I compared your latch to this NOS one I have and it's different. So that's three ! Weird things these Pontiac critters haha
