Default PYPES exhaust question

Looking at putting a new exhaust system on my 73 trans am. Looking at the pypes 2 1/2 inch with X pipe system but am unsure of mufflers. Looking either at the race pro or the violater. Is anyone running the violater's and how loud are they? On hwy are they going to be annoying? MY Car has 3:42 rear end and rev's around 2700RPM at hwy speed. I have a buddy with street pro's and i like them but would like something different than him. Any advice appreciated.

Street pros are in between race pros and violators I think. For some reason streets are louder than race, I would have thought the other way around.

I just did a 3" race pro. I really like it but it is suprising quiet. Sounder good when you get on it. The X takes the motorboat sound away and makes it sound like a more modern muscle car.

I have the 3" with the x and race pros also, looking forward to hearing it.

I have the 3" Race Pro's and they are fairly quiet, but flow great.

I'm giving serious consideration to going with the Pypes single factory style muffler. It's the only one that is actually a straight thru design, the factory and others crossover inside the muffler. Great ground clearance, great sound and performance.

I was also unsure of what mufflers to get with the pypes kit. I ordered just the pipes and the cross over and later decided to go with the super 44 flowmaster. It has a 4" case providing more ground clearance. I have not started the car yet but I hope it will have a deep aggresive tone.

I wondered about that system but wasn't sure about the performance of a single exhaust. I have read that tahe X pipe makes a noticable power difference compared to the H pipe. Not sure if this is true but not much is said about the single muffler. This is something i should look into as i like the factory look. The car is not a race car but i did do some work to it to get it a nice streetable driver.

462, SD performance ported 6X heads to flow 260 cfm,1.65 rockers, Doug's headers, XE 274 camshaft, HO intake, Cliff carb. 4 spd with 3:42 gears.
My current exhaust sucks. It's a 2 1/2 into 2 inch mufflers and tail pipes. I think this combo should wake up with new exhaust. Just not sure what to put on

My motor later will be a 428 SD Old Faithfull cam with SD ported 670 heads with Dougs headers. My original pypes system was a 2-1/2" with x pipe. Dave told my to change it to 3" which they swapped for me as it was all still in the box.

The ultra flows is what I'm runnig as well. They are bit on the loud side. Depends who you ask. I like them. About the best flow you can get. 92dbs at cruise(3200rpm). HO maifolds,2.5",x pipe. muffs and 2.5" tailpipes.

I have 3" violators on my GTO dumping at the rear axle. I also have heat and sound barrier under the carpet. My 468 makes just under 600 horse and I have Doug's headers and a dr gas x pipe. You can't really talk at normal levels in the car and I suggest ear plugs on the highway. Sets off car alarms nicely though. The violators are a turbo case with a straight thru design and are the ultimate in performance yet they are loud. HTH Mike

I have the Pypes Street Pro stainless steel 2 1/2" exhaust system with the "X" pipe. I don't know where they fall if bewteen the Race Pros or the Violators.
Take a listen to my exhaust for yourself.

Everybody's has, or knows somebody, with an Iphone. There is a free app that measures db levels. It would be nice to get some real numbers instead of just subjective "kinda loud" descriptions of different setups.

The PYPES muffler is like two straight thru mufflers welded together in one case. They flow very well, they are not a factory style muffler on the inside, they only look stock on the outside.

I talked with Chris Casperson about my thoughts of taking two bullet mufflers and welding them together for use in the stock location. He informed me about the PYPES muffler, that it was in effect what I was trying to do with a stock look.

I have every confidence that it will fully support my TA running well into the 10's.

I got ya David. Rest still the same?

FWIW on exhausts my Dr Gax-X 3" system into 3" Ultraflows and Torque Tech 3" mandrel tailpipes is as fast as open headers-even with the weight of the pipes and mufflers added. Pretty quiet if you ask me.

Something my old H system with loud resonating 2 Chamber Flowmasters was not.
