Looks great...
But I think you could use a taller tire on the back. The front looks perfect.

My problem with a taller back tire is clearance. If I went taller I would have to go narrower. I am going to have to trim a little from the rear lip as it is. The wheels have 4.5" backsp. Maybe with more backspace I could go with a taller tire but I have to live with what I have.

Unless you trim the stainless I think cornering will be a problem. Might need to add some rake and raise the back a bit to compensate for body sway.

How much room do I need? If I trim back to the stainless I will have a little more than 1/4".

I guess all you can do is see how it works out. I was surprised when I found my 1972 Grand Prix was marking the sidewalls (under cornering) with more than 1/4' clearance. I'm running shorter, stiffer (than stock) rear springs and air bags with 275/15's on 8" wheels on back that are tucked up in the rear. The car is stiff and sits low, but has rubber bushings out back. I suppose deflection is letting the body drift, otherwise, it turns like a go-cart to me compared to stock.

I think the new wheels look killer. Makes the car look more aggressive.
It does look like you're gonna need to raise it up a little in the rear & maybe drop it just a little up front. 2$ . |

I had the 17's on my Firebird. With the slightly stiffer new suspension, it rode like a wagon. I felt every crack in the road.
Put the 15" Rallys and 255/60x15 Firestones on it, it now rides much better, still handles fine. Don't get me wrong, I like how the 17's look, but the ride quality is just the wrong side of "firm" for me. Your GTO looks terrific, by the way.

What size are the rear tires?
Going one size smaller in width is only going to narrow the tire .4", but will give you more clearance. I'm just throwing some numbers out here, but if those are 255/40's, going to a 245/45 will gain you about .7" in diameter or a 245/50 would add another .6". You won't notice the slightly narrower tire that will give you better clearance to the fender lip, but you will notice the extra .7 - 1.3" extra tire height that will give you a slight rake (remember, you only get half the diameter increase in height) that I think will improve the look. Safer, better ride, better look IMHO. |

No flame or negative intended here - whatever you decide it's your car and your prerogative. Owning one, I understand the Frt / Rr '67 clearance issues...tight, tight, tight. |

Put an earlier '64-'66 rear end in the car, 1/2" narrower per side.
Problem solved. Do not hack on the rear wheel openings. |

You asked for opinions--The original Rally II's look better. Your car looks really good and appears relatively stock. The 17's may look more appropriate on a resto-mod car, but not on a nice '67 like yours.
The original wheels/tires will ride better, fit better, cost less. The only thing to be gained with the 17" wheels/tires is possibly better cornering and less weight--maybe about 40 lb. overall. A few years up the road, the original Rally II's will look like they belong on your car-- the Year One's will still look aftermarket.
