I have, and damn that takes a long time by hand.
Actually Calvin, you need more options it you really want an accurate poll. I have ported Iron, and I've purchased C&C'd Aluminum.

I have and I own my flow bench but just because someone can do something doesn't mean they are good at it and should be doing it.

Plain old 6X ported with a SF110 - vehicle 4050# four door wagon, 91 octane pump gas, 3.55 gear with 28" tires, 234/244 standard hydraulic, stock geared T-400, Rhoads adjustable lifters, Q Jet, RPM, 3200 tight 10" Continental, full out the rear quiet exhaust, stage/launch at 1800, shift at 5700/5800.
One photo shows airflow (off my PT analyzer), the second shows four time slips, and there is an address for a U Tube that confirms the range of performance these heads furnish. Note that the average exhaust flow of all measurement points is about 85% of intake and has always proved to run great. Note the MPH run by this very large car. And particularly note the intake port volume average of 171 cc! Don't need huge ports when running such moderate RPM even with a 473 ci Pontiac. Max velocity in the range the engine is loaded will provide max VE! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWO4G-7pwr4 car 5462 Jim Hand Last edited by Jim Hand; 05-30-2013 at 07:46 PM. |

I ported a set of small valve 17s
Retained the stock valves and got 244/168cfm Many thanks to Jim Hand's book and McCarthy's video. I swept up the shavings and had something like 2 pounds of iron. HARD work with a rotary grinder by hand. If I had it over I would have a plunge cut on the bowls. Actually did that on a set of LS3 heads and turned out great! 350CFM! So I've done 2 different families in iron and aluminum. |

Ported some #48's myself to flow 270 cfm and ran several 10.10 quarter mile passes with them. I gained 30 or so cfm on my High Ports but then sent them to someone that has a much better idea of what they are doing. Anymore I would just buy some cnc heads that flow whatever is need.

Something's are best left to the experts that do it everyday and have proven results.
It is Like brushing and flossing your own teeth but having an expert doing dental work beyond that. |

Ported my 96's with help from Jim Hand and HO racing books/templates. Flowed 255/205. Spent many hours working, but worth it in the end for the experience and knowledge. Currently not porting a set of Kauffman D ports, 310 CNC version, I'm not going to touch them.

Spent 4 weekends on some 4x. Sent it off for valve and guide work and they found 1 head was cracked from the ex bowl into the ex crossover and into the void above the crossover and into the valve cover aria. If there is oil in that opening above the ex crossover you might have a problem. . Now i just pay to have the heads re-worked.
