Default 72 TA

I just acquired this from the 2nd owner who has owned the car 28 years. Appears to be all original paint, body metal, & interior. Car was sold new and has been in So. Florida all it's life. I have all the paperwork, incl. bill of sale, warranty card etc. It even has the original spare wheel (KR). The car is now stashed in my dad's garage in Ft Lauderdale awaiting transport to Ohio. My dad was a Pontiac dealer in Niles, OH (Trotter Pontiac 67-76) and 72 was the year I graduated from high school. I thought I would receive a Trans Am for graduation and have been left lusting ever since. I'm more interested in preserving the car and I am looking for guidance in that area. It has a cracked windshield and I already spoke to Pilkington Classics which have exact duplicates available with the correct date codes. They are located in my city (Columbus), so I will not have to pay shipping. It's White (11) with Ivory (222) with a build date of 9C. I already ordered and received the PHS. AM, Roof Mldg, Glass-S/R, Unit IGN, Console, Mldg-Belt&HD, Air Cond, Cstn Trm Grp. Funny thing is it has a Tilt Wheel yet it's not on the PHS.

Congratulations on the purchase, Beautiful Car! Appears to have the original plastic valance. Auto or M22?

Tilt columns have been a very popular upgrade over the years, not something many of us would pull just to get the car back to 100% as built. In the 80's & 90's I used pull tilt columns every week & I've torn down a ton of them. To possibly verify its been added, there is a stamped date on the main column tube & ink stamped date on the ignition switch (easily swapped). Again congrats!

Very nice find! Looks great. From a quick look it looks like all you need is a bleeder style master cylinder and the unitized ignition and you are back to day one.

I have used Pilkington twice for my 72 Formula (I busted the first date coded one- my fault completely). The date coded glass is very nice and the correct original thickness, too. My glass installer couldn't remember installing a windshield that heavy, in years. I know you are local to Ohio but bring a big truck when you pick up that glass. The giant wooden crate they pack it in is the size of a refrigerator and weighs around 300 pounds.

Very NICE!

Unmolested/survivor cars are My favorite...

Early build.....09C How many miles?

I have one with close build date & very similar options....different interior color & no A/C....

Was there a build sheet with your paperwork?

That's great. I have a bunch of warranty papers on my car from back in the day. It was rather funny - it seems that at every oil change they replaced the unitized ignition coil and module because they kept failing.

I'm not sure where to start with that ignition. Should I send it somewhere to get tested or repaired? I'm capable of light mechanical stuff but that's way out of my league.

72 build sheets are really scarce..........

Personally,I've only EVER plucked one....late build 72 base bird...and was EXSTATIC to find it...

Hopefully YOURS will be there waiting........It would really be a NICE compliment to your new car's documentation....

The po apparently attempted to replace the fuel sending unit but he said he ordered the wrong part so he had dropped the fuel tank for access. He said he didn't see a build sheet at that time. Where else might one be in the car?

Pass.side rear seatback lower.....(I posted another picture)

Early 70's Norwood builds did NOT have one on top of the tank,as I understand it...

If it's NOT behind the back seat backrest, you are probably SOL....

here's the license plate I've ordered. I plan on taking it to the Trans Am Nationals in Dayton the end of August.

The 73 T/A I bought last year has 59K orig. & the unitized distributor came in a box in the trunk....just like yours did....

Perhaps Steve will open a "unitized distributer" mail in clinic...

Steve, what about the chrome valve covers? I've read that they weren't original equipment. Should I replace these and if yes, any source suggestions?
