Default Need a TH-400 crossmember and kickdown switch for 70-73 Firebird

I'm swapping over to a TH-400 in my 72 Esprit, so I need a TH-400 crossmember and kickdown switch for a 70-73 Firebird. Let me know what you have- thanks.

Jegs has your crossmember for $76 part # 106-X395-3570. Probably can find the kickdown on e-bay.

Doug,
The part looks like the same crossmember Ames Performance sells, but they state it's for a 70-73 Firebird. Jegs says their crossmember is for 70-81 Camaros. I know GM used the same front subframe for both Firebirds and Camaros- is it safe to assume they're the same part?

I sure hope so. I bought one for my 76 TA as I am making the same switch. If I get a chance today I will crawl under the car and check. To my knowledge the crossmembers are interchangable on Camaro and Firebird. The subframes were the same and have bolt holes for either Pontiac or Chevy engine-frame mounts. Also Jeg's has free shipping now.

I know 70-74 and 75-81 subframes are slightly different, but they couldn't be so different a universal TH-400 crossmember wouldn't fit. And if the holes don't exactly line up I'm not afraid to make adjustments. I just ordered my torque converter so I'm about a week away from making the swap- I'm thinking if the Jegs AMD crossmember is good and you verify the fit I'll order it ASAP.

Do you think you could get some pics?

Thanks,
Geno

Well it may fit your 72 but not my 76. Mainly because the frame changed in 74 or 75 to accomadate the catalytic convertor.

Anyway the one I bought from Jeg's measures 32" overall, ctr. to ctr. on the side bolt holes is 30" and ctr. of transmount to ctr. of drivers side bolt hole is 15.5" and transmount ctr. to pass.side bolt hole ctr. is 14.5.

Everything on the 76 crossmember measures an additional inch on each side and two inches overall. I will have to modify or sell this one or modify my 76. I will probably just modify my 76 crossmember. The only visible difference is the mounting plate is on the rear and not the front of the crossmember.

If this new one will fit your 72 I can make you a deal on it and ship monday.

Doug,
I'll throw a jack under my Bird and measure the x-member. If your numbers are good I'd be happy to buy yours (vs. ordering it from Jegs). I'll get back to you tonight.

I just found out my x-member also works with a TH-400- it has two bolt holes, just needs to be moved back a little. But I still need the kickdown switch if anyone has one.

Ransom- That's probably because it wasn't a 70-74 TH400 F body kick down bracket.

Blackbird- I may be able to help on both parts. I will send you a PM later today.

Thanks -Will

The 70 thru 74 TH400 cross member won't fit 75 thru 81. the 70 thru 74 member is to short for 75 thru 81.
