Default 1965 gto door handle how to get the button out of the handle

I bought repo handles and have changed my mind and are going to have the original handles chromed. how do i get the guide for the button rod out of the handle. Thanks

I don't know but it looks like if you can turn the piece inside 90 degrees it may come out.

From the photo you have provided it looks like they are not really made to be removable.
The metal plate is inserted into the slot and then probably stamped by a machine to set them in permanently.

You could grind away the material at one end of the plate to get it out, but then you would have to fashion a clip or something to hold it in.

On second look at your photo it may be possible to twist/turn the plate counterclockwise out of the slot.

I would try the turn 90 degree idea. The plate may set in a slot to keep it from turning but it looks like the same spring that returns the button holds the retainer plate in also. Just push in on it and if it moves push a little further and turn.

Default Problem solved

you push the button retainer down about 1/4 to 3/8 and it twists 90% and comes right out. Thanks for the help
