Spark plugs in a aluminum head
After some of my dumb questions today, im almost scared to ask. LOL
Did a search first, not really any info that I can find on this. I have KRE alum heads, when putting in spark plugs they say only go finger tight, then a little more, I get this. My question is..........I can turn them finger tight, but they still seem to run quite a bit more when using a wrench............it seems like you then feel resistance/or they feel tight against the head, then I turn them a hair more. Is this right or wrong, I do use a little anit-seize. Or is the point where you cannot not turn them with your fingers anymore, the point to stop. Rich |

What you feel is the gasket compressing with socket/wrench. I don't use a TQ wrench but roughly 15 - 20 FT#. Think book spec is 18?? I use anti seize even though mine is race application..plugs don't stay in long..

if you use never sieze. use the copper colored never sieze conducts electricity, only use a little and try to keep it away from the electrode,
Champion sparkplug company makes a liquid graphite lube that can also be placed on threads, water based .specificly for that application works pretty good be careful either way about torque. those threads can get cross threaded and they can strip out easy enough |
