Default Sound System Install Complete

I just completed the sound system install and wanted to show everyone how it went. I installed:

Retrosound Model 2 Radio
Custom Autosound Kickpanels
Rockford 6.5" Speakers
Pioneer 6x9s in boxes behind the back seat
Rockford 12" DVC Sub
Rockford Mono Amp
Alpine 4-Ch Amp
Rockford 1-Farad Capacitor
4 ga. Wiring Kit

I made a false wall to mount the amps/cap in the trunk, and the kick panels allowed full use of the fresh air vents. I did have to move the e-brake over slightly to make it all fit, but it was an easy adjustment.

If anyone has any questions or comments, let me know! It sounds great!

Thanks. I was a professional car audio installer all through college, so if anyone has any questions about their sound systems, just ask!

can you still use the vent pulls with those kick panels?

Yes, the fresh air vents are completely operational. The e-brake was in the way, but like I said, it was a snap to move out of the way. There is a wide range of prices for the kicks, but they're the same as the Chevelle ones, so a little digging should provide some options for you!

How do you like them? Do they stick out farther then you thought? Did you order them with speakers already installed?

Thinking of getting the same thing.

I do like them. I really like that the vents still work. They do stick out compared to the originals, but that is to be expected. They match really well, and look like they belong in the car.

I didn't order them with speakers installed. I would prefer to pick my own speakers based on how they sound and match their wattage to the amp I use to power them. I'm pretty picky about speakers, so it works better for me that way.

Let me know if you have any other questions! Good luck!

One quick thing about them though, there is a tab at the top of them that you have to remove to install them on the GTO/LeMans cars. I'm pretty sure it's there for the Chevelles, but it has to go. Be very careful removing them, I came very close to breaking off too much plastic on the first one I did!

What did you do about rear speakers? Looking to upgrade my system but unsure about the rear. Picked up some 6X9 boxes at a garage sale for a buck but moving those around everytime someone gets in the back seats might be a pain

I don't think there are any great solutions to the rear speaker issue. I didn't want to cut anything, so I put shallow 6x9 boxes behind the rear seat facing up. You'll still get sound from them, and some mid-range fill, so its a decent option. Like I said earlier though, I'm amping all 4 speakers, and I put good 6.5'' ones in the kick panels, so the quality overall is pretty good. With the 12' sub in the trunk, I feel like I'm getting the best overall frequency range that you can with a convertible.
