Default 27th Annual EyesOn Design - June 15, 2014, Grosse Pointe Shores, MI

Looking for something to do on Father's Day?
If you're in the Metro Detroit area this weekend, here's an event that you'll enjoy.

EyesOn Design is a Concours type event that celebrates automotive and vehicle design. The show is a fund-raiser for the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology (DIO).

Each year, a wide variety of vehicle exhibition categories are selected and vehicle participation is by invitation only. This year's categories are:

100 Years of Dodge
50th Anniversary of the GTO
50th Anniversary of the Ford Mustang
1964 New York World's Fair - 50th Anniversary
"Working Class" of 1928
Color, Chrome and Fins
Military vehicles - From War Torn Roads to Off Road
Indian Motorcycles
Collectors Circle
Maserati Centennial
Movie & TV Cars
Pure Michigan - Made in Flint
Tuners
Muscle Cars
Personal Luxury Coupes
Classic Era
Stock to Rock

There will be approximately 290 vehicles on the show field.
The show will take place on Sunday, June 15, 2014, from 10:00am to 4:30pm at the Edsel and Eleanor Ford House in Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan. General Admission is $20; children under 12 are free (with adult admission).

Hope to see you there!

About EyesOn Design and the DIO:

The Theme for EyesOn Design 2014 is: Automotive Design’s Influence on Popular Culture

Show date: Sunday, June 15, 2014
Location: Edsel and Eleanor Ford House, 1100 Lake Shore Road, Grosse Pointe Shores, MI

About the Show:
Vehicles are chosen based on the year’s theme by invitation only, and between 200 and 300 vehicles are at the show on Father’s Day. In addition, EyesOn Design features special exhibitions and concept and production vehicles which debuted during the previous year’s auto show circuit, including ones which were awarded at EyesOn Design at the North American International Auto Show.

EyesOn Design receives its support from both domestic and foreign vehicle manufacturers, as well as automotive suppliers and other loyal companies. Judging is facilitated by active and retired exterior and interior designers from leading automotive and supplier companies.

EyesOn Design was founded in 1987 with the support of design heads of GM, Ford, and Chrysler as an automotive exhibition judged exclusively by automotive designers. Today, we celebrate design with an ever-increasing group of designers, collectors, manufacturers, suppliers, and the general public.

About the cause:
EyesOn Design has raised over $4 million for the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology (DIO), the research arm of the Henry Ford Health System Department of Ophthalmology. The DIO supports the visually impaired and blind of southeastern Michigan and organizes two leading world research congresses. The DIO congresses bring together competing researchers to share their findings, critique each other’s work, and go home with new approaches.

The Eye and The Chip, organized with Harvard Medical School, encourages collaboration between efforts to provide artificial vision to many people who are now blind.

The Eye, The Brain, and The Auto improves our understanding of the relationship between vision and the safe operation of vehicles, in an attempt to reduce fatalities.

The DIO also operates support groups for adults and seniors who are visually impaired.

Thanks for posting I didn't know there was a show there, I will put this on my list for next year, we often in years past anchored our boat in the cove next to the house ( mansion )
driving down Lake Shore Drive people were in awe of the House in front and not realizing that what they were looking at was the guard shack and not the family home. Driving the lake shore is a real calming drive until you get to about Conner's road the contrast is unbelievable, they destroyed my city.

Maybe next year I will bring the Liberator and stay in the cove, Edsel can look down and smile at the twin 460 Ford engines.

Thanks for posting, JMT. That was on my list of things to do but I had computer problems all weekend.

It seems to have healed itself so if you don't mind I'll add my photos to this thread. My son Joseph was manning the camera so these are the things that caught his eye.

This is still standing along I-94 west of Detroit (not as a ferris wheel, but as a giant Uniroyal tire). I passed it twice last night on my way to the airport.

I got a kick out of this, too.

Spectators and participants get this nice, glossy print program commemorating the event.

I was flipping through (..and flipping through...) and I made it all the way to the very last page before I saw this familiar nondescript black '65 GTO...

This photo is from the 2010 event.

Whew! That was close! Almost made it the whole day before running across my GTO in print somewhere...

(lol)

Sorry I missed meeting you Keith! It was too nice to sit by my wreck and not see the treasures on the lawn.

Keith,
Thanks so much for posting all the photos!
I was the Category Leader for the "Pure Michigan - Made in Flint" category.
It was fun pulling that group of vehicles together.
Glad to see so many pictures of the Flint-built cars and trucks!

I was so busy I didn't get to see the entire show, so I really appreciate your photos.

Dr. Eric Schiffer was the Leader for the "50th Anniversary of the GTO" category; he presented a great group of cars!

Thanks again for sharing all the pics.

It was a great day.

What's the story on the Buick Pickup truck?

Mike - what did you have there?
