Default Quick wheel question

Will these vintiques wheels, 15 by 7, with (225/60R 15) tires fit on the rear of my 67 GTO? Of not, can I machine the back of the wheel a bit to get them to fit or is the rim to thin? Want to find out before I spend the bucks. Thanks everyone in advance to the reply. Its great to have a forum to get some answers before making mistakes.

Yes, they will fit. The backspacing and tire width are the 2 factors on whether or not the tires will fit in the wheel well..... front of rear.

As for machining the back of 'any' rim....it's not recommended and could cause very serious problems.

You can machine a small amount off the backside of some cast or forged aluminum wheels with sufficient center thickness, this is not all that uncommon and good wheel shops handle this kind of job fairly often.

The wheel pictured is a stamped steel wheel that is chrome plated, you're not going to be able to take any material off of a thin steel stamping.

If the wheel has at least 4" of backspacing it will fit fine, even with a larger tire than the 225/60-15 which is on the smaller side.

Depending on the amount of backspacing you can go pretty wide, up to a 255/60-15 on a 7" wide wheel. You really need to know the bacspacing measurement before deciding on some of the wider tire sizes.

These say they are a 4 inch backspace. What can I use and get away with it?

I would say a 235/60-15 to be safe, possibly a 245/60-15 but anything bigger really needs 4.5" of backspacing.

Shame that they didn't think to use the factory backspacing which is somewhere between 4.25" and 4.5".

I have P275/60R15 on factory 7" Rally II wheels on my 1967 GTO. But I don't know back spacing.
