Default 70 gto 455 ram air

455 with factory Ram Air? Rare indeed. The number I always heard was that there only about 500 out of approximately 3000 455 GTOs in '70.

Great pick up. Love the colour.

My first GTO was a blue vert. from Nebraska and it was a nice car as well.
Maybe there's a secret stash of GTO's in the flat water State.

With no high jacking intention, here's a pick of the vert.

Approximately 500 of the 3,747 in '70. That's the best estimate I've heard. Of the total, 1,761 were manual transmissions and 1,986 were auto, but I've never heard an estimate of how many of the Ram Air cars were auto vs manual.

Interesting that according to this information all the manual transmission Ram Air 455 came with M-20s. My '70 455 (non-Ram Air) came with an M-21.

Thats what mine is a m21. I wish I could break mine all the way down. Its a no power steering no power breaks. 302 is what I figured.

You're both right. Chart must have been written incorrectly, as the correct 4-speed for the 455 would have been a close-ratio M21.

M21 is what I've always ran across in 70's with factory 455 & 4 spd, believe the designation of M20 on the talley sheet is a typo. Think about it, the '70 455 dport with the S grind cam didn't need a 2.52 1st gear wide ratio transmission. Pontiac engineers picked the 2.20 low gear M21 for a reason.

Pontiac4ever1971, good catch!
What assembly plant did it come out of? There are several 455 RA M21 projects owned by members here on PY, nice to see one that doesn't need 40K thrown at it in body, paint, interior, missing parts...
