Default 326 - 455 interchange

I have a worn out 326 I'm about to pull out of a 65 lemans. I also have a bare 73 455 block and crank I will be building with 6x heads in the near future. Will The timing cover, valley covers and oil pan from the 326 swap over without issues? Any other parts I can salvage from the 326 for the new build?

Yep, you can swap all of your external stuff to the 455 other than the 326 valve covers wont work on later 6X heads. Valley pan , timing cover, dipstick tube, and oil pan and balancer can be used from 326 and all the 326 pulleys and accesories keeping your 55 looking 65 The windage tray of 326 may have clearance problems with long stroke but could be spaced out to clear with studs and washers/nuts to fit instead of the original bolts but you will still need it to guide and retain lower dipstick extension.

The 455 will have both bolt patterns for the engine mounts so you can use the original 326 mounts on your 455 engine.

Why won't they fit (different bolt pattern or interference with the rocker arms, etc.)? What year valve covers will fit on what year heads?

Thanks

Valvetrain interference is the issue, the rockers will hit the covers. Can be remedied easily by using tall valve cover spacers, bolt pattern has always been the same no matter what year cover you're looking at.

Pre-1967 engines used a 20-degree valve inclination, low-performance 1967 heads too which includes all 326 engines, this was a transition year.

1968 and later all were 14-degree heads (including all 1967 high-performance heads), which used a deeper valve cover design.
