Valley Pans
I picked up a Pontiac valley pan with the PCV back by the distributor. When I got it and got a good look at it, it does not have the notches for the intake runners. Everything else looks the same as my 67 pan except it does not have the two dimpled areas near the center of the pan and no notches for the runners. Whats it from? Older engines? Usable?

1964 and earlier. It will work just fine but you will need to notch for the intake runners.

I used a cork gasket with my valley pan. I also have the rear pcv hole which I prefered for my 67. After marking and trimming the valley pan to fit under my Tripower I realized the cork gasket was shaped exactly the same as I trimmed it. My point is, if your going to keep it a cork gasket is a great template to follow. I found it very easy to trim by just grinding it lightly on a bench grinder.

The 64 intake manifold had higher ports vs the later 65-up stuff. The roof of their ports was more like a stock RA-IV location.
If you run a modded 64 Cross-ram intake on a later engine you need to add material to the BOTTOM of the runners vs adding to the roof of the port when modding for a RA-IV or High Port type Head (vs a stock 65 up head). That is why the 64 Valley Pan did not need the notches for the intake runners. Tom V.

It makes me wonder if my valley pan is older then as its the rear hole design and it didn't have the cuttouts.

It's a 1967 pan. They moved the pcv in 68 up front.

Thats interesting, all along I thought it was a 67 valley pan but was confused about the notches not being there.

'65 -'67 Valley Pan (or Pushrod Cover)
Rear PCV valve location.
Note that it not only has the 4 notches to clear the intake runners, it has 2 reliefs cut at the front to clear the bottom of the water crossover and 2 small round dimples pressed into the center.

1964 and earlier (not sure how much earlier this design was used)
Rear PCV valve location. No notches and missing the 2 dimples in the center.

1968 - 1972 design
Front PCV valve location.
Note the two 'pyramids' stamped in the sheetmetal that add stiffness to the bolt hold downs. This pan is a little narrower than the two previous designs so there are no notches to clear the intake runners or the water crossover. This is a 1972 pan.
