Help out the old brain here Am I correct to remember that the distributor hold-down clamp and bolt were not on the engines when they were painted? Therefore, the correct finishes would be bare metal?
If it matters, this 400 I'm working on right now is a '75, so it's an HEI.

Might be like apples and oranges, but by 77 when the olds engines appeared, the dizzy was in place at time of paint and over spray covered it too.

Thanks. Mine has those blue & black splotches too. I also found it odd that in addition to the typical stamped part number & date code, there is an aluminum band snapped around the dist body at the base with the same info stamped into it.

But then I realized what I thought was an 5A21 was more than likely a 5H21 (as in '85 or '95), car was shipped 1-10-75. And the module was a replacement, as well as plug wires. Natural steel on clamp, but backside looks to have paint on it. 2 lock washers had me thinking the machining wasn't deep enough on the hole, but who knows.

And the stainless band was missing too. Man, I missed a lot on this one.
