Default Carb rebuilder recommendations??

I am looking for some suggestions on having the carb rebuilt for my 68 GTO. I know Cliff is one of tops out there, not sure if I want to wait the 6-12 month wait though.
Any other suggestions?
thanks mike

Cliff is the best , bar none. He did mine about two years ago and I had to wait only about two months. I guess things change due to his work load. If you absolutely can't wait on Cliff, I have heard good things about Carb Junky. 1-770-457-8570 info@carbjunkys.com. Believe me , Cliff is worth the wait. He did my carb and Suntuned did my dist. Two of the best things I had done to my baby.

If you don't need the original carburetor back, have you considered using a Carburetor exchange? They will send you a matching rebuilt carb in a few days, and then you ship them back your old one. (you ship it back in the box the new one was shipped in, and then they give you a partial refund). I did this a few years ago with my '69 LeMans, and it worked great. I used Rock Auto, but there are others, including the "Carburetor Exchange" http://www.carb-x.com/

I will second SHAKER455, he rebuilt/setup the dual quad tunnel ram on my boat and it works really well.

Shaker455 will get it done right. He can give you a respectable time frame too.

I've heard good things about this guy. If ya'll have any bad info on his work, please post it here. I certainly don't want to be recommending someone who doesn't do good work.

Also, what about the Mountain Man, and the other Ebay regulars ? I've read that some are good and some are not. So, this would be a good thread for guys to give us the scoop on carbs actually bought from any of these Ebay sellers.

I've read where Cliff and others warned against the big commercial carb rebuilders. And I think I can identify some of 'em. But what about these ?

Well, you can Google up LOTS of Q-jet rebuilders. But who's good and who's not ???

Ponyakr - thank you for listing my website www.thecarburetorshop.com/Perfcarb.htm

This page did not get updated 3 1/2 years ago when we had to stop carburetor restorations due to a lack of time because of the demand for our carburetor kits.

Since you listed it, I have updated the page. We no longer do carb restorations, although we still have a pretty good selection of restored carbs. We send anyone asking about a Q-Jet rebuild to Cliff. Of course, if you can knock 40 years off my age, I will be most happy to again restore carburetors

I've used All American Carb twice to rebuild some OEM 780 Holley's for my 70Z28. I was satisfied with their service. They are out of Jacksonville, FLA so I see them at some of the larger swap meets here in the southeast. I can't speak of their Quadrajet builds though.

Cliff just sent back a carburetor for a '68 we are doing. It took much less than the 6-12 months you mentioned. I can't wait to bolt it on and see what it does.
Give him a call and let him know what you need. You might get it back sooner than you think.

is there something particularly wrong with the carb? float issue, no shot of fuel? etc. you may save a bundle staying with your local guy. But anywhere you decide to send it, make sure of a few things. 1, are the sections of the carb correct for your year? you should be told of any mismatch prior to starting any work. 2,is the carb rebuildable? you should also be informed of any interior flaking, corrosion or crap that will prevent your 600+ dollar carb from preforming . 3, you must insist that you will NOT have to make any adjustments other than idle speed , mixture adj. and secondary rate opening speed. in other words, YOU do not have to split your carb open to adjust, rework or BS around. for that money, you must be happy. Do i sound angry? wonder why when I threw out 700+ dollars for an experience I truly regret. z man

Yes, I just spoke to Cliffs yesterday and that was the wait time they stated. I don't have a problem with his work, its great. I had 2 carbs done by him already and they are excellent, but it was a 1 year wait. Just was looking for some other suggestions, would prefer a professional Pontiac guy, that can re-color and restore it correctly. Its the correct carb so I do not want to do a exchange.
thanks

I was hoping to send my carb to Carb King at some point, but it looks like that is out since he has stopped restoring carbs. I want someone to restore my carb well, plate every single piece correctly and make sure to not damage the original yellow Ram Air choke pulloff and original plastic fast idle cam.

I like Cliff from speaking to him and I am willing to wait. Can I assume that he does this level of detail work if requested?

thanks
