Default '79 T/A Dash Resto.

I've been working on an interior restoration for my 79 T/A for a while now and have completed a good amount of the necessary work, but I cannot get through one part. The original dash board has the typical crack across the top of it and I'm trying to decide on the best fix. I attempted to restore it myself, first with a cover (which did not fit correctly) and then by filling the crack and re-finishing the dash (also failed). I am considering sending the dash out to be completely restored but I've seen both good and bad reviews about the companies who do this work. I'd love to know any other possible fixes that I haven't tried, and if anyone has had a dash restored professionally I'd appreciate any opinions! Just trying to weigh all of my options. Thanks

Default On the dashboard...

Just Dashes out in Van Nuys, CA. They are pricey but well worth it. Mine is 7 years old and still looks like I installed it yesterday.

I had them do mine in the 81 , same deal had a cover it cracked. It was pricey and I give them a B+ on it. Took about 2-3 months. They covered over with vinyl or sprayed heavy adhesive on most of the holes for the glovebox, and instrument cluster and bezel where you could not even see them. There were some of those holes that needed repair(epoxy) as they were visibly stripped they did not repair. The vinyl was so thick in the corners the gauge bezel that I had restored also would not fit without a heat gun and a LOT of pushing that tried to rip the edge off of the bezel.

They did do a good job repairing to add back in a knob radio where a previous owner had cut it out.

I think they are the best option out there, but my experience for the money was not outstanding.

Thanks for the replies. That is what I'm trying to decide now. Not sure that I'm quite ready to drop $1500 yet. I've been looking for another dash that is in decent shape too, but haven't had any luck so far.
