What helmets are you wearing to protect your melons?
I figured while I don't have my car because its at the chassis shop (or my trailer to work on because I had to leave it. They didn't have room in the shop when I dropped her off) I'm trying to gather up a few things that I'll need....and one of which is helmet.
I'm looking at all the selections and can't figure which one to go for so I thought I would turn to you guys for help and suggestions. I know I'll need to get one that's SA2010, but my first question is, Is that the latest rating out or is there another more stringent one that I need to go after? Some have side / top draft vents. Anyone using them or are they not worth it? I was thinking that the inside of the car could get smoky during the burnout and it would probably keep ones head a little more cooler (at least with some air movement) during the time in the car when the sun is really beating down. I know that the amount of time in the car is not that long, but I figure it would be one less thing as a distraction when your trying to concentrate. Anyone??? |

I have one of these- http://www.summitracing.com/int/part...lgmb/overview/
Reasonably priced and comfortable. I wouldn't worry about fancy features and vents and stuff- you'll only be wearing it a few minutes at a time at the drag strip.

HJC, vented and has larger opening for my glasses. Lightest I could find without going to carbon fiber.

I would avoid vents...extra cost, not in the car that long and provides a path for fire to sneak in. Vents really only work on an open cockpit car that get air circulation.
I used to use the Bell M3 which had the bigger eyeport for glasses. If you can wait that long, go to PRI in December and you can lay your hands on all of them and make a decision. Eric

I shopped quite a bit...I couldn't stand the idea of buying a Chinese made helmet.
I ended up with an Impact Champ. Really nice helmet for the money and made here. |

I also wear an Impact Drag Champ. I use the plain full face carbon fiber helmet from DJ Safety for my other racing activities.
