Default My barn find isn't a Pontiac but I still love it!

Brought this home a couple weeks ago. 1963 1/2 Ford Galaxie 500 XL. It's a real "R" code 427 - 425HP - dual quad - 4 spd - 4:11 car. Blown up racing in the mid 70's and stored in the shed ever since. I've known about it for a few years and finally got it see it and make an offer in Sept.

The XL came with the nice interior with buckets and console.

Off the road for 39 years.

A brand new crossbolt 427 block was purchased from Ford and never put together. Extra ribbing on the side and screw in freeze plugs for strength.

In pieces but all the pieces were there.

Love those cast iron headers!

First sunlight in almost 4 decades! Do I look happy or what?

R Code?! Im guessing this isnt one of those ones where the dude didnt know what he had and you got it for like $700 right? Please tell me you actually had to pay real money for it, or I may have to cry in jealousy.

Cool car! I like the exhaust manifolds.

What is the Red and White box under the dash?

Whats the deal with the little corvette on the trunk?

Nice find!

I remember my uncle having a black 64/390 automatic, with red bucket seat interior.

You don't have to cry, I gave real money. The man left it in the garage after a divorce and 20 years later he passed away and the kids said "it's your's Mom, do what you want with it." Several guys had asked to buy it for years but wanted to steal it. "Hey, what would you take for that old Ford?" hoping she was stupid but she knew it was special. When I got to see it I made a serious cash offer. Plus, when she called to say it was mine I learned that the original block was in a little shed out back. Even though I was sure it was junk (tag on it says cracked) I took her an extra $500. Glad I did cause then there was also extra heads, an extra T-10 trans and 4 vintage Cragar G/T wheels all thrown in.

The red box is some oddball SW gauges like I've never seen.

1958 Yardman Corvette go-cart body. My brother bought that.

Thats awesome man. 63.5/64 Galaxies are really the only Fords I drool over. I think they look really good in wagon form too. I have had my eye out for one. Surf wagon with a teardrop hood = Victory

Get the motor built good. All new brakes, front suspension & steering parts, exhaust, tires on Cragar G/T's. Clean the outside. Clean the inside plus new carpet, it has that funky smell. DRIVE IT! Couple years down the road it will get fresh paint.

Car is super solid. Not a single rust hole anywhere. 95% of the trim is excellent. 51,059 miles on it. Guy had owned it since it was 6 months old.

When I was in high school there was a 63 fastback, 390, black with red bucket seats and wire wheel hubcaps. Beautiful car and I've loved that bodystyle ever since.

Cool

Congrats! Imagine "most" of these built were not w the "XL" (heavier) trim, yes?

Always neat to see the "faux" convertible top color and "bow trim" that was popular w all American brands back then (like '62 GP roof)... Will be intersting to see if the original block can be repaired w new technology

Congrats again.
