Default Sealing emblems

I removed the gills on my 2+2 to buff and polish. Cleaning up the speed nuts I found they were packed with something. At first I thought it was just dirt. But the way it came back out of them it appeared to be some type of sealer.

When in installing emblems and such do we use an o-ring on the stud and then the speed nut or some type sealer to seal the penetrations?

Yep it's basically like butyl tape (the black sticky sh!t you can buy on a roll to re-seal your windshield). It's water proof and doesn't harden.

I have some putty we use to seal fiber optic cables where it leaves the conduit. It does not harden and it keeps water out even when submerged. It's non petroleum based also.

I used 3M black strip caulk on mine.

Mortite is a trade name for same product. Used to be used to seal windows. Came in a tape roll similar to pictured, but was only about 1/8-1/4" wide. Not sure if still made or not.

This is the stuff. It's great for many uses, and it never dries out or gets hard.

Duct seal! Awesome stuff! Or gorilla snot. Or elephant snot. Lol. Thinking about using it behind my roof rail weatherstrip. Strip caulk will also do the trick i think.

No they were the regular stamped metal speed nuts.

Were yours replaced at one time? I'm sure my trim was never removed.
These are about 3/4 inch long white plastic with the nut inside.
They are very brittle, some broke apart as I removed them and I found the smaller nut inside.
I'll take some pics and post them up if you like..........
