I'm curious what the options are for electric fan setups?

In 115f summer heat in CA, with AC, and a 461, I'm worried my cooling system is maxed with the single fan. Plus it's robbing some power.

Are there any plug & play dual fan setups with shroud that will work without having to replace the radiator? I already have a nice heavy duty radiator.

Also the engine currently has a Milodon 16400 160f high flow thermostat.

I'm thinking about going up to a 180 to get a more complete fuel burn. Are these old Pontiac engines OK with that or do they like to run cold as snot at 160?

I do weekend drag race the car though and I'm not sure if I will loose any power by raising the operating temp that much. It is hot as hell here in the summer. Thoughts?

I switched from electric to traditional clutch fan without fan shroud installed and temps dropped from 208° on highway to 182°. Many variables and many threads to talk about them all.

Just be sure you know the facts before dumping big money on your setup.

Check out a fan, click on it and look at the static pressure drop in.H2O for actual air flow. A typical radiator will be around 0.4 pressure drop. Most fans advertise amps. Compare CFM among fans not amps, if they don't tell you ask them. This is what is most important. You can find 2 similar size fans that draw the same advertised amps, but put a load on it and the actual CFM [amount of air flow] will be very different. Go with the 180deg tstat.

I've never ever thought to look at amps when buying a fan, for a car, a computer, anything. Its always about cfm, period.

Question is, on 69 Firebird, how much is enough? Adam has me scared now lol..

I used 1996 F-body LT1 dual fans on a 68 Firebird. Fit well and can cool and then some.

Used F body early 2000s LS1 dual electric fans from local pick a part. Work great in a first gen Firebird. Took out the temp conroller after 2 failed. Straight relay when ignition is on, fans are on.
