Mildred, I told you we should have ordered the Y96 Ride and Handling option!!!

Hmmm, we just flipped our new car while towing a trailer on the highway, we are blocking all lanes of traffic, gas is pouring out on the road from the tank, what do we do? run? call out for help?

Naah, lets get a passing motorist to take our picture leaning against our flipped car before it explodes!

On a technical note the wheels are gold which is correct for an Antique gold car with dogdish but its odd it has the rocker molding which was only available on a Cat with the decor group which included deluxe hubcaps.

Thanks North! I love the '69 Catalina stocker. I can't make of the class it is in, but I imagine F or G/SA with the std. 360hp 428. That would be the small valve motor I believe. I would love to know more about that car too.

I don't know much, got them from a guy in western Canada. The flipped over car seems to have Michigan plates

Yeah, I saw the '69 Michigan plates. Neat to see body colored wheels, so it must have been one of the five wheel colors available for '69.

The clue to the location is the race track "Thunder Valley" and Schoon Motors which both are/were in the Sioux Falls, SD area. Also, the rear quarter I believe says "SOO ALIGNMENT", which may be a play on the Sioux name. Very cool picture in the pits with the Jul - 69 date.

It looks like a savy racer could order a manual trans (3-spd column shift) with the regular 428 motor, which got you the large valve heads (can't remember the engine codes). Then switch in the TH400 auto and proper Q-jet and you would be legal and have the advantage of the large valve motor.

Thanks for posting these North!

Very cool, Dennis

The base 428 YH code came with #46 small valve heads, 1.96/1.66 v. #62 large valve, 2.11/1.77 heads on the YK coded HO's

The small valve head actually made more torque according to the spec sheets from back then.

The code for the manual trans 428 -360 was WG, I have a virgin one, it is identical to the 428 HO automatic down to the big valve 62 heads, 067 cam, 4 bolt mains, carb, distributor everything. The only difference was the HO exhaust

North, Did you buy that motor separately, or did it come in a car you bought?

I bought the engine online but it was in a 70's firebird at that time. Engine was virgin, never opened
