Default My Other Car - '68 Coronet 500 Convertible

My uncle bought it new, sold it to his dad and I own it now. It was from Pennsylvania, so it has it's share of rust. I just got it running after an 11 year slumber. Spent 3 days washing and detailing. Can't afford to register/insure it at this time, but I've been dying to take some current picture of it. It's just a 318 2bbl and put dual exhaust when I got it.

Good luck with your new ride. I always thought 68 was the best looking year for Mopar, with the exception of the Baracuda.

I love the "Direct Connection" plates!

Did you crank the torsion bars down or lower the front end in some other way?

Just got the DC plates last week. I don't like photographing the "real" plates, so I hang this front/rear when photographing it. Like the 60's look of the DC plate.

My uncle had cranked the torsion bars to raise the front end at some point. When I got it I lowered it until I liked it..

These cars had nice lines.
A domed Super Bee hood would be a nice add, too.

Nice Coronet you have there. There's no mistaking a '68, as everything built by Chrysler that year had the one year only round side marker lights. Rectangular lights followed and continued after '68.

That brings back a lot of memories. I had a 68 500 coupe that was painted the identical color as yours with those same hubcaps back in the 70's. 318 with the split bucket seats with a center armrest.
It was a sturdy solid car that got t-boned by some lady who ran a red light going 70. The car was totaled but I didn't get a scratch.

very nice car, but I guess our tastes are different. I don't care for the stance at all, I much prefer having the front end up higher than the rear, but I grew up in the 60's that was what was in then. Looks like it has a wore out front suspension with the current stance.

What options are on it? Right away I noticed the turn signal indicators on top of the fenders, plus the quarter panel trim on the scallops. Both of those were options on a '68 R/T I did long ago. I suppose the full wheel covers were options, vs. dog dish covers? Bench or buckets? Front disc or drum? Does it still have the left hand lug threads on the driver's side? I hate those!

Yep, it was the style back then. The car in 1969...
