40 years ago 1977
There was this little company in Phoenix Az ..............
The most powerful American Car in production was making 225 net horsepower. This was a 1979 Corvette. The company mentioned above DKM, inc was making "alternative HP" vehicle packages. Question Number 1: What other vehicles had they produced in the past? Question Number 2: How was Pontiac vehicles involved with this company? Question Number 3: What type of induction system was involved? Question Number 4: Who were the Pontiac Players? Question Number 5: What did DKM, inc do to the vehicles? Question Number 6: Who was Larry Beasley? Question Number 7: What service did Larry Beasley provide? Question Number 8: Who was the company Larry Beasley worked for? Last Question: What was different about the vehicles they touched. Tom V. Today Drag Week Cars have the ability to make 3000 Hp on a dyno and be street driven. Big difference vs 1979 Corvette's 220 net Hp, from the factory

I had a customer with DKM Camaro. DKM installed Nash 5speed, 3.55 r&p, Headers and an aluminum intake on 350 engine. Custom wheels with wider255 Goodyear's and custom seat leather. It was a nicely built car, good street manners. I remember the Pontiac connection.

I knew you would. A couple of other guys on the board obviously could tell us some stories too.
Would be nice to have them relate some of that info. Tom V.

In the day, the only Mecham creation I was interested in was a '79 Tallon. When I contacted Dennis Mecham, no more were being built. I believe the few that were built were sent to Saudi. Dennis at the time, sent me contact info to American Fiberglass in Phoenix who produced the fiberglass fenders, quarters, & hood.

Larry Beasley was the Turbo Guy from Rotomaster (Rajay) that sold DKM / HO Racing the Turbos for the HO Racing Turbo Kits.

I think those were at a shop around Van Buren and 35th Ave in the early 80's IIRC. Are those the same ones Steve?

1977 was a good year for Pontiac high performance and H-O Racing in particular. In addition to the 1974 T/A 455SD record holder:
H-O Racing (me) bought a new 1978 Macho T/A from Dennis Mecham. I told Dennis to do the cosmetics (including "Turbo" paint) and the suspension stuff and we (H-O) would do the rest. We built a Hi-Po 1972 455 H-O (D-port) and swapped out the stock 400 (sold it to somebody), put on an H-O Racing TurboForce and it became a "corporate car." That Macho was nasty fast. Ken Crocie sold it somebody in 1982 after I sold H-O to Ken. It was #108 and Ken lost track of it. Maybe somebody has it today. |

Craig, I recall all too well how I yearned for one of those cars back then!
I think my face looked like this for days after finding out about them.
