H/O Racing HC-02 Camshaft Question
I'm getting ready to install an H/O Racing HC02 cam in a 400 and want to know if there were different versions of it. I've seen HC02D mentioned on Wallace Racing and wondered if this is an updated version of the original. Anyone know if they had different lobe separations and intake centerlines? I guess putting a degree wheel on I can figure it out except it's been decades since degreeing a cam.

There were several versions of the HC-02, but they were all around 232/244 on 112CL , with lifts varying from .480" to .500". I doubt any of them would run any differently in a given engine. Set it up for a 108 deg ICL and you will be good to go.

Since your posting about it there are many good things on line to follow thru on degree check that can guide you in getting it right.
Don't skip this part just because it may be new to you , get the biggest degree wheel you can find and a degree kit with the needed parts and then take your sweet time and do it right! Just a matter of course I would advance the Cam with a off set keyway by 2 degree's just to compensate for normal chain stretch that sets in after 20 runs or so even with the best roller chain.

OK we degreed the cam but needed 4deg advance at crank to get a 108deg CL and a 113 1/2 deg lobe separation. Does this seem right?

HC-02
Mine needed a 2° offset at the cam (same as 4° at crank). Mine required 107° ICL as per cam 'card'. This is with an aftermarket double roller timing set, single keyways.

straycat and tooski make a good point as to why you should always degree a cam. We always had the HC-02s ground with a 108 deg ICL, regardless of vendor.

Yea exactly Ken. We started with the cam straight up then went in the wrong direction retarding it. Oops wrong way then advanced it.
