Fuel pump bolts 1978
So... while diagnosing my fuel delivery issue, I've found that the fuel pump bolts are in fact missing. What size and length are appropriate for a '78 400 engine?

missing- as in not there while the pump was hooked up & running?

As in not there after failure, pump is currently sitting in place supported by the carb feed hard line. Engine was running fine before then.

fuel pump bolts should be a 5/16 coarse thread... about 1"-1.25" long.

Well, got some new bolts, a gasket and some loctite, seems to be okay for now.

That pump not being bolted down would have me wanting to confirm that both the pump arm and the eccentric was not beat up / chewed up and ready to fail or the arm was not chewing up the face of the timing chain and was ready to fail and all the while either of these two dumping metal into the motor!

Well with a mechanic's mirror you can likely confirm things are ok by backing the pump off and peering in with the aid of a small light while a buddy cranks the motor over with the spark killed.

Pump arm didn't contact anything in there, no signs of wear or rubbing other than the eccentric landing; pretty sure I would have heard that in the couple minutes after the bolts walked out while I was still rolling on the remainder of the float bowl. It looks like the 3 fuel lines kept everything lined up perfectly just below the cam eccentric. I'm just going to have to keep an eye on those bolts and maybe start thinking of doing the in tank pump/TBI conversion sooner rather than later.
