Default Pontiac Pegasus

I have to admit that in my 50+ years of owning a Firebird (and a few other Pontiacs), I have never heard about the experimental Pontiac Pegasus, a '70 Firebird with a Ferrari V-12.

Evidently they are rerunning that episode. I think I saw it 2 - 3 years ago.

"This unholy mashup occur requires an explanation..."

The following explains the design:

"The hand behind the mashup was Jerry Palmer, a stylist at Chevrolet. With a goal of freshening up the Camaro, Palmer created a four-by-two-foot sketch combining the Camaro with a 1958 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa."

Where this took a disastrous left turn was:

"Bill Mitchell liked the design, but carried it down the hall to Pontiac where it got off the paper and into the metal."

I missed that. I've only seen a couple of Leno's Garage on Youtube. I don't recall seeing the program on my OTA stations guide. We don't have cable.

For one thing the tail lights would be illegal... even today. The 66 GTO was the only year for tail lights of that type. I was told they were done away with due to visibility of the rear stop lights not showing up very well during daylight hours with the body painted red. Especially if the sunlight is directly shining on the rear of the car. That was for the complaint by the guy that almost rear-ended me.

I've had that complaint with my 66 GTO. And due to that I'll be testing a black matt spay on/ peel off wrap made by Duplicolor to see if the tail lights due show up better.

Thanks. That's why I don't see it on over the air broadcast TV schedules. CNBC appears to be a cable/pay TV station only.

The Pegasus was in HPP or PE years ago, maybe both? Thought the write up said Ferrari wanted that engine back because of poor representation? I'm not digging through me 3 foot high stack of mags. Anybody else have anything to add about this?
