Default Nitrous and compression ratio?

Generally speaking, how much compression is too much? 14-1? 15-1?

Would it be better to be in the 12-1 range?

Specifically an engine with good parts, but not max effort. Something in the 800-900 horsepower range, 505-535 cubic inches, aftermarket block, forged steel crank, aluminum rods, e-heads/hi-ports, etc.

Looking to spray in the 350 horsepower range, 36n jet in a fogger.

I know there are 100 different ways to get it done. Just looking for some general opinions from people that have run similar combos.

My motor is a 505 makes 700 on pump gas 11.5 compression I spray 350 shot car is 3290 dot tire 8.90@ 154

Wrong converter way to tight 8.50 coming

14 15 compression does not leave much room for nitrous..

I was running a Cheater Plate, with about 175 hp, on my 14-1 engine. 71n 57f jets, 6 psi, and pulling 8 degrees with pretty good results.

Getting ready to freshen the engine and put a fogger on it. Wondering if I should knock the compression down a point or 2 while I'm at it?

I would run 12..1 compression if you are going to hit it with 350 plus shot .175 hp on a plate is nothing in the nitrous world really small .hell 350 is considered small...lol

Yeah, I want to keep the nitrous on the small side. 350 will get me where I need to be and hopefully still be low maintenance.

How much timing do you pull with the 350 shot?

Every combo is different, pull the standard 2 deg per 50. And go from there on what it wants.

It's not old school when you don't know where to start (it's called safe starting point). Timing and fuel burn crap up. My systems are 2 Custom fogger's from Induction Solutions.

Keep your compression around 12.5 to 13.

NO2 ? Too risky for what you get back. Burn your engine up over something small. N/A, Procharger or Turbos is where its at.

I disagree! I have a guy with standard pushrod location E-heads running 5.20's in the eighth and drives the car around on 93 octane when he's not racing. The car is show quality and doesn't look like it has an engine from NASA when the hood is popped like a turbo or supercharged car does... He sends his engine back every fourth year for a check up. Very low maintenance and a lot of fun.

We ran a 541 CU IN IA block with 12.7 Compression Ratio E-heads. Made 815 HP NA and we sprayed a max of 500 HP. Then switched to Tigers at 12.8 Compression Ratio Made 937 HP NA and we sprayed 600 on top. No real reliability issues you wouldn't expect at that HP level. Ran 6 degrees BTDC on full spray. We found the more retard we ran to get to that point, the faster it ran and the easier on pistons and rings. We learned the hard way, killing 40 pistons in one year listening to the "experts" running BBC's and the like. The Pontiac wanted much less timing with high nitrous loads. Have fun!

Nice! I'll be sending my heads and intake to you in the near future.

Thanks everyone for the help.

I'll be running an Induction Solutions fogger. It was set-up and flowed for a big block chevy intake. I replumbed it to fit my intake.

Call Steve and get set up the right way. He’s the man you should be asking what to do!

When I was ready to purchase a Fogger I called Induction Solution only to be jerked around. The guy on the other end of the phone was a dick. So I hung up and called Switzer Dynamic and I have been treated very well and there product is second to no one... Just my experience.

Cool! You won't need to use any nitrous then
