Under $250 each...2 gen: 1LE frt brakes, S10 rear disc or hydro boost
If anybody is interested in how to make these conversions at reasonable prices using all factory parts including hoses (except Hydro boost bracket) let me know and I will provide part numbers or applications. These are cake conversions and cheaper than you would expect and they work great.

Interesting....
It would be good to learn more of these options. I've already obtained and hope to use rear disc setup with internal brake that i removed from a Jimmy Blazer. Trying to adapt the ebrake looks to be the biggest hurdle.
Like others using hydroboost this could be a plus as my brother needs a setup for his 72 Lemans which has little vacuum. So looking forward to seeing what you may share!

Ok these are proven on 2nd gen F bodys.
Hydro boost first I guess. Hydro boost unit from '90's Astrovan. I paid 30 bucks at LKQ U Pull it. $25.00 rebuild kit on Epay. I really didn't need it but I figured it was out. Factory hoses: If you have SAE fittings w/ flares and hoses like '78 and older you use hoses from a '77 Seville with diesel. If you have metric hose w/ "0" rings you use hoses from an '80 Seville with diesel. Either set $80.00 for the pair Advance Auto Parts Square plate for mounting, basically a plate with hole in it with the tang in it. Epay $30.00. Pair of Vacuum booster brackets $15.00 Epay. You have to fabricate this. Clevis for brake pedal $7.00 Epay. You'll have to fabricate this as well. So far $187.00 plus a Tee and fluid. If I missed anything let me know...

From the S10 you'll need baking plates one from and 2 wheel drive and one from a 4 wheel drive. You see if you're working on a 2nd gen one caliper is in front of the axle and one is in the rear. Rotors obviously new or used. I bought drilled and slotted for $100.00 for the pair on Epay. Calipers as cheap as $30 or 40 each at Advance. Or Junk yard. A pair of hoses new Advance or junk yard. A 1/4 inch spacers from S10 Warehouse $30.00 Ok cable magic. Cut the end of your existing cable off and pull it out of the casing. Use the cable core out of the S10. So you cut the S10 cable end off at the front end pull it out of its housing and slip it in F body housing, measure and cut it to the right length. Remove cable assembly entirely and bring to a Cable rigging place that assembles crane cables and they can swedge the pellet on for about $15.00 for the pair. Master cylinder for '79 Trans Am with 4 wheel disc. Everything is a bolt on except little brackets for the brake hose at caliper location. This what worked for me. I assume NO RESPONSIBILITY.

I'm using drilled and slotted rotors Epay $100.00 but obviously optional. For my master I'm using '81 Turbo TA master cylinder again optional. The '79 master is cast iron and available reman.

Spindles from salvage yard(Make sure your donor car has 5 on 5 lug pattern...I paid $25.00 each. Rotors about $60.00 each from local part store or drilled $120.00 for the pair Epay and large GM D52 calipers local auto part store @ $20.00 each. Bearings: Inner are Set 6 the same as 70-81 2gen F body and outer Set 3 same as 79-81 F body.
Depending on what year your 2 gen is pick the same year for calipers : Up to '78 SAE thread on brake hose. 79-81 is metric. Pads D52 all.

I did this and tried to keep as stock looking like it came from the factory. I git a seal kit for my pump and removed the pump from the reservoir, blasted the case after taping very well to keep sand from the inside! fabricated and bent a 3/8 steel tube (fuel) and silver soldered it in. Prime, glaze in a few spots, and paint looks like it was shipped from the factory.
Some things that made this easier for me: For hoses I had to have the one from the pump to the Hydroboost made using the factory end from the pump and a junkyard or Rock Auto new one with hard line cut off to mount to the Hydroboost. For pressure from the Hydroboost to the gear box I used one from Silverado from Rock Auto cut about 3" off and flared it for an o-ring fitting. I cut the rod for the actuator and welded a cut off fine thread bolt on and used the factory clevis to the pedal. Made a socket that mounted on my Inner Tie Rod end tool for removing and installing the 4 sided nut to the mount. |

Well I can't tell what you have obviously. My first question would be, "Is your power steering pulley pressed on or is it nut and key way? You original style is nut and key way. If it were me, I would try it. At worst case scenario you may have to change pumps. 90% of Saginaw pumps interchange as far as mounting and alignment. Not to say all Saginaw pumps are the same but is definitely the easiest to deal with. In my case no issues. It even bled itself in about two seconds. Sometimes you can just change the pressure valve in the back. Hope this helps...
