Default Vacuum pump mounting

So mounting up the vacuum pump on passenger side. The easiest way my fuel return will be behind the pump between it and the head, supply line over it. Any issues on pump generating heat?

Black fitting is the return line.

Mine doesn't create any heat that would cause issues.

Agree. I'm not aware of the vacuum pump generating any heat.

Fuel pump Mallory 250 ,RobbMc return regulator. Teflon fuel lines -8 feed, -10 return-had to keep replacing regular SS lines.

GZ pump, so far a Butler mandrel.

Made some progress.
The GZ baffle has a lot of small holes and one large one in the center that looked like it would be too easy to suck oil so I put a pipe plug in it.

I had much better luck with the Butler brackets and mandrel, my setup is on GZ's website
GZ is awesome to deal with
only gripe on the mandrel is that sucker is HEAVY, wish there was an aluminum one. I did like the pulley adjustment and allen key screws on it. don't forget to add some thread locker on it
had the screw loosen up on me and that keyway disappeared, the belt was holding it on... glad it didn't destroy the radiator.

as for that GZ breather, one other thing i found that helps with preventing oil being sucked in, of course aside from having the engine sealed up nicely, is i used the Ford PCV mesh filter (typical mid 80s 5.0 mesh filter) and stuffed some inside there, another thing that significantly helped was the stud girdle since i didn't have VC baffles, and others have alerted me to this benefit of the girdle use.
i get just slight oil in the catch can after running it on the street for hours on end, and thats spinning the heck out of the pump too with the smaller pullleys i am using. i found i had better sealing with silicone on both sides of the valve cover gaskets, but TIP seems to have a nice gasket thats supposed to work with VP's.

as for hoses i did use the GZ hose which i liked cause you saw it change color from oil misting, but i just recently went with the higher end Aeroquip push lock hose.... VERY nice indeed, if money prevails i'll go to the Earls Ultra Pro setup to match the fuel lines i just ran... that hose is without a doubt SUPER sweet, but not exactly cheap... but WOW... so much lighter and SO much easier to cut and apply fittings too, to me makes it worth that price addition, but sometimes that meshing gets annoying when you try to run some additional heat shielding over it....

If you use some sort of mesh to to prevent too much oil, just watch for a build up on it over time..that will block vacuum.
You may find those vacuum hoses may loosen up or become less pliable overtime.

I did use the Butler mandrel as it was easier to adjust than the GZ one -for sure the one they have that is fixed and uses the large balancer bolt (they send a longer one to hold it on. The GZ SBC 3 bolt one also can be adjusted by cutting the outer sleeve(Tin Indian has similar setup but a bunchof different thickness spacers you can vary where to stack) but I would think getting alignment just right would be a pain.

I was pondering using some mesh in the breather also.

I got the Butler mandrel and was less than happy with it. It was heavy, it didn't spin true, and the smaller shaft limited pulley options. Plus I run a Fluidamper, and no one really makes anything that will fit those any more. Butler did a great job of allowing me to break up their kit and return only certain pieces. Excellent customer service. Can't say enough about them.

I went forward with an aluminum mandrel from Jones Racing. The BB Ford piece uses the Fluidamper bolt pattern, and my machinist just had to cut the pilot bore slightly to fit over the Fluidamper. Because of the standard shaft size, more pulleys are available. Yeah, its similar to the Tin Indian, but TI didn't have one for a Fluidamper anymore, so went with Jones. Sure it uses the stacked washers, but alignment was pretty dead on.

Haven't run this setup yet, so cant speak to oil consumption yet, but Im close to firing up for the first time so will know in the next few months. .

Jones is top shelf IMO. Real nice folks there too. Wasnt the cheapest way to build out a vac pump but will sure last a long time.
