Bought a New Toy this weekend
It won't be official until the Michigan Secretary of State reopens in a week or so, but the Deal is Struck 2009 Solstice Coupe, 5-speed Manual, 2.4 N/A, Brazen Orange, with optional Soft Top. Aftermarket Exhaust with tri-Y header.
I wasn't looking, but I like Orange & Yellow Sports Cars. Great Price IMO, higher Miles at 88,000. Looking forward to Taking delivery in a week or so. I have known the seller for some time. His wife somehow became pregnant during the Lockdown? Go figure. What do you think?

Nice! Like the removable tops too.
I had a C3 Corvette with removable top for a while. I really enjoyed the open air cruising. Sadly, I'll bet that Solstice is just as fast as that LT-1.

Nice car and was a favorite and thought I would buy a new one.........and then Pontiac folded.
I have ridden in one and learned the driver's footwell was to small for my big feet and pushing in the clutch and brake at the same time does not work well. Why I can't enjoy small sport cars. I have seen a couple at car shows with the LS conversions. I always saw the car as a modern day Cobra with a transplanted Pontiac 461CI, 5-speed, and Cobra style side pipes and roll bar. Why did Pontiac have to go under just when they finally pulled out of their hat a good looking car? LOL |

Thanks, I also Like the looks of the coupes better than the convertibles (and I love my Convertible) This car is much slower than my V8 Convertible, but it is a pretty car. This is Coupe #663 of a reported 1266 total coupes made, 102 preproduction cars, 1152 sequential VIN 2009 coupes, & 12 preproduction 2010's. so this car is almost the middle of production. This is 1 of 50 Brazen Orange Coupes, and 1 of 357 Manual transmission coupes, & 1 of 371 N/A Coupes according to the info the seller has. I don't know how many manual trans orange non turbo's were made though.
Until I looked at the sheet I knew it was a rare color, but I had no Idea it was 1 of 50 made that color. Not the rarest color, there were 5 colors with less units made, including 1 Teal coupe exported to Canada & now for sale in Florida. Thanks for the kind words. Hopefully I like the car as much as I think I will. But now I will have to find a place to store it this winter, or buy a lift and store it below the convertible.

I think you need to have another banner custom made now.

You may be right!
Correction on the number of Orange coupe's. The seller gave me a spreadsheet on a thumb drive with some of the production data including Color, N/A or Turbo, and Manual or automatic Transmission. The other numbers did not include 8 orange export cars to Mexico, so there were 58 not 50 total Orange coupes made, there were 14 of 58 N/A cars made, and only 3 Manual transmission versions. So it is a rarer version than I thought.

Had I run across that Solstice, it would be in my toy box. I'm seriously jealous!

Nice find Jeff. I'd rather have the coup too. Convertibles... not so much. Coups alone are rare, let alone being painted Brazen Orange.
There are two Solstice coups here that aren't seen much. One grey and one black. I like the Brazen Orange better.

Great find. There is a great Solstice group in Michigan. Check out Michigan Kappa Club on facebook. We get together with them a couple times a year, fun people. Also the solsticeforum.com website is very useful for these unique and fun little cars.
Enjoy! Also, next year (2021) the national meet is in Michigan. Perfect timing.

Thanks, I didn't need it, and I wasn't looking for another car but I could not pass it up, not many Orange or Yellow Coupes made, it is local and I know most of its history and those were huge pluses. It will probably end p as my summer daily driver for this year anyway. It should get 2X's the MPG as my truck, and be more fun to drive. I really like the looks of it with the previous owner added stripe that is modeled after the stripe on the 2009 Street Edition Convertibles that are the same color.
Thanks for the tip on the Michigan Kappa Club, but I am already a member with my 2006 Mallet Convertible. Great group of people!

Congratulations on your new wheels. I tried to purchase a new Orange Solstice Coupe at the Pontiac dealer in 2009. My salesman told me that the Solstice production had already been stopped by PMD. What Solstices were on the ground, were all that were available. I did an inventory search and found a Orange Solstice Coupe in a nearby town. I contacted the dealer and was never able to locate the Coupe on the lot. Within a couple of weeks, Pontiac ordered all their new vehicle inventory on dealer lots to be marked as Used vehicles and to get rid of them. I was never able to purchase a Orange Coupe. In 2013, I was able to purchase a 2009 Brazen Orange Solstice Street Edition with only 8,000 miles on it. My Street Edition is 1 of 138. In the year 2006, I purchased a new Brazen Orange GTO. When you park the Brazen Orange Solstice next to the Brazen Orange GTO the paint color is different. The advertised Brazen Orange Solstice is really Inferno Orange like the Corvette color. When I purchased some touch up paint at the GM parts center , the label is marked Inferno Orange.

Post a picture of that Street Edition! The previous owner added the Street Edition type stripe to this car, I think it looks great with it. It would only need the blacked out headlight buckets to mimic the look in total.
Glad to hear you were able to get your Orange Solstice! I was wondering about the actual color as I was reading that on the export cars to Mexico is called NARANJA METALICO BRAZEN and on Canadian cars its INFERNO ORANGE METALLIC all with the same paint code of U28. So Inferno Orange sounds correct.

Congratulations Jeff, I love the coupe body style better than the convertible. I lobbied for the coupe over the convertible when we were building the prototype but everyone else loved the convertible. Awesome car.

The Solstice coup was built right here in Wilmington, DE on Boxwood Road in the now nonexistent GM Plant. Yep, it's ALL gone and the land it being prepared for Condos or Office buildings of some sort. GMs history has completely disappeared on the East Coast, except for one location that I know of.... Lackawanna, NY.

Thanks Jerry, maybe we can plan a meetup in the near future and I can show it off. It was an unexpected Impulse buy, if it wasn't a coupe, either yellow or Orange, and a manual trans, A/C, & the optional soft top, I would not have went for it. I personally think the color works very well on the car.
GT182, don't even get a Solstice or Sky fanatic started on what GM did with the Wilmington Plant. They shut production down so quickly they left a Huge amount of NOS Body panel in the Basement where they were stored prior to assembly, Including at least 1 Coupe Body Shell that was taken off the line due to damage incurred during the assembly process. Then when the plant was Bull Dozed they just left all the parts down there! Now new Body parts are becoming hard to get, and I don't think there will ever be enough demand for someone to repop them! With only areound 72,000 total Solstice & 35,000 Sky's & Opal GT's made. And they share no external sheet metal parts. Hopefully it will have it home by the end of the week!

Nice looking car, I too stand with those that like the looks of the coupe rather than the 'vert. Although topless may be more fun on a nice sunny day
I knew many a people that worked at the Boxwood road plant. Lots of friends fathers when I was a kid and then on to peers as a young adult. I used to travel by there on regular basis, last time I went by the dozers were running rampent! When I was a kid it seemed that there were 2 places of employment of which everyone I knew worked. The Chrysler plant in Newark, and GM in Wilmington. Chrysler was dozed a few years ago also and now an office campus and part of the UofD. |
