No, but we think he had a mild stroke sometime in 2019 and never said anything. Soon after he reached out to me to assist him in selling his '65 and has been living comfortably down in FL since. Some of the guys just spoke with him within the last month. Reportedly collapsed while out the other night. Waiting to hear back on more details.

Met him a few times. Last time was Pontiac In The park in mid 2000 time. He was giving his gto some serious power shifting and broke his tail shaft to the trans. Genuinely a good gentleman in my few times talking with him.

Met Rick many years ago out at Norwalk, when his '65 convertible was still close to stock . Talked to him for quite a while. Wasn't until later that we found out his racing history. He was a hell of a nice guy, conversation came easy. We would always talk when when I saw him at various events.
One time that sticks in my mind was down at VMP- I was there for one the FAST events and he was there testing. I think he had the convertible running low 10s by that point. Anyway, one of the links broke in his rear suspension and he ran out the pass with the only thing keeping the rear located was the tires rubbing in the wheelwells, making a huge trail of smoke as they rubbed. Went over to talk with him after seeing the pass and he was still his usual jovial self, not worked up at all after what had to be a pretty hairy ride. He'll be missed for sure.

It was soon after that the JGG II plan went into effect and everything was overhauled. Most of us slow down just a bit when we age, Not Rick!

I talked with him several times at different events back in the early to mid-2000's. I seem to remember he was getting the car into the 10's and it may have been powered by a 428 with a Tri-Power set-up back then. He was a dedicated drag racer for sure, good humored and easy to talk to for sure....RIP Rick......

You are correct,
The old 428 short block had been sitting in the shop for a few years and recently went down to Texas. The JGG II was then powered by a Butler 474, with a best of 9:88

Rick would show up at my local track occasionally, right up to the end of 2018, at NorthEast Dragway in Hertford NC. He always entered the mod class with me, and we always had something to talk about in the staging lanes, since we were normally the only Pontiac powered cars on the property. He had that “four on the floor” under control every pass. It was always nice to hang out in the pits and talk about our last pass’s like we all do.
I would always shake his hand and say to him, It’s “Me & You against the world”. I’m sorry to hear he has passed.

Yea, He was a good guy once you got to know him.
Funny as phuck when we were all together and he would talk about his glory days. So many great stories, including running up to NY for some late-night street racing. He was a trip and will be missed.

I also saw the convertible run at VMP (PITP weekend) and Rick was hell on that 4 speed (Richmond?). In fact, Jim LeHart was at the fence beside me telling me that one of his engines was in the car. |

Yea once he got away from the junk he started making real power.
Don't recall what trans he had back then but ended up with a Jerico DR4.
