I kinda like it. The proportions are a little off though, almost like the car is too long or the roof is too short in length.
I love the boat tail Rivieras

At first glance, does kinda have a 66-67 Toronado front look.

Too big for a fastback. Like the first gen Chargers...

The design studios always went through a bunch of different proposals before they decided on the final configuration. Sometimes they'd even do two different designs on the same clay buck, divided down the middle.
I was happy they decided on the reverse curve rear window, I always thought it was elegant. I used to have a '65 GP and loved to just look at it. |

GM built that car. It's called a 1973 Buick Rivera....
I'm glad they didn't built a Pontiac like that. |

I had the bay door open the other day & the wind was blowing.....so here is what my 64 GP would look like as a fastback!
I love fastbacks, but that one is a bit odd. I have a 67 Marlin & a 66/67 Charger is on my bucket list. A woman from over on the Hamb had the roof of a 66 Charger grafted onto a 65 Riviera that I thought was beautiful! God Bless Bill https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...closed.614419/

In the side view you can see they integrated sail panel design into the 69' GP

We published a two-part article in Poncho Perfection about that car as part of the design evolution of the 1965 full-sized line.

I haven't picked up an issue of Collectible Automobile magazine for quite a while, but they used to have a regular feature where they would write an article about a particular make and model, and the article would include pictures of some of the preliminary designs. It was always interesting; you could see there were some details would eventually show up in a later year or maybe in another model, and then there were some where it was obvious the designers were just spitballing to see if something would work or not.

I do think they got it right with the final design for the 1965 Grand Prix. It was such an elegant car.
