Question 4L80 with Transgo full manual kit

Anyone running the Transgo 4L80E-3 full manual shift kit on the street? Any comments on it? Is it pretty much like driving a clutchless stick? I do like the idea of no computer and certainly don't mind doing the shifting. How did you handle lock up torque convertor function? https://transgo.com/product-details/4l80e-3/

I ran mine this way for 6 months, separate switch for locking up the converter, worked fine. I found the hardest part was remember to turn the lockup converter on and off.
I got lazy and switched to a computer module to run it, there is so much more you can do/control with the computer, but for a basic shift stick the Transgo kit had no issues.

Thanks for the reply. How quick\firm were the shifts? Did you have it behind a Pontiac V8 on a typical bellhousing adapter? What convertor did you use? What shifter? Figured I'd put a micro-switch on the shifter to engage lock up in 4th only.

Mark, (Half-inch stud username on this forum) has a full manual 4L80E in his 68 GTO. I believe he made up the necessary parts himself, not used a kit. He may chime in, or you could message him.

Here's the link to his install thread:

Shifts were firm, not hard, was behind Pontiac bell housing using trans dapt adapter plate. Converter is a TCI 3500, I used a Kilduff lightning rod shifter, which was great with the constant manual shifting, and I had a mirco switch in the 3-4 lever knob for the lockup. I did refer to half-inch stud's writeup when doing my own, mine was thrown together as well.

Since the full manual kit was conceived, there has been a electronic box now available that can make a 4L80E transmission fully manual also. I thought I'd let anyone considering the full manual kit, that there is another way to achieve the same end results. $165 at Jake's site.
