Th400 overdrive?
Are there gears available to run a th400 with a 2.52 first 1 to 1 (or something close) second and an overdrive third? I’ve raced a car with a power glide and I’m just wondering that with all the torque pontiacs make why couldn’t we use first and second like a glide and third as an overdrive?

TH400 3rd can only be 1:1, so no OD gonna happen.

GM started making a T 400 with OD in 1991, it's called the 4L80E.

You can buy a lower 1st gear, make it a 2.75, but it's still 1:1 3rd. But this allows taking some rear gear out of the car maybe to something a little more highway friendly. There are quite a few companies that market it, ATI, Hughes, Coan etc... Coan makes a 2.75-1.56 setup for the 400. All this gets a little spendy for not a whole bunch of gain. Then you have to figure out what rear gear you want to tolerate and try to bandaid one end to help the other.
Which is why I just go 4L80E and done with it, so I can keep my rear gear where I want it, and enjoy a lockup converter along with a .75 overdrive. Not cheap either but way more benefit. |

Still have the Gear Vendor option also.
