Tire and Wheel size
Hello I have a 1967 GTO with 14" rally II wheels on it. I would like to replace them with 15" wheels and tires. I have found a set of 4 wheels and tires. The size is
15 X 8 with a lug pattern of 5x4.5. The tire size is 255/60/R15. Need to know if these would fit on my car and if the tires would rub anywhere like the front fender when turning a corner. Thanks in advance alan PS also just saw an add for cragar mags with two 225/70/R15 tires and two 275/60/15 tires. Would these fit my car?? Last edited by alanmay0; 05-28-2022 at 11:25 PM. |

Wrong bolt pattern. You need 5 x 4-3/4. Or 5x 4.75

Nobody can tell you outright. You’re going to have to brake out the straight edges and rulers and measure.
The upsize isn’t that large but the earlier a bodies don’t tend to have as much room available. If your current wheels and tires fit well without any running issues, you can use those wheel and tire specs on this calculator to see how the new wheels and tires will fit. You need to know wheel size, tire size and backspace off your current wheels and what you want to put on. https://www.wheel-size.com/calc/

i have been running 275/60r15 on the back of my 65 GTO on 7 inch wide OEM rally 2 wheels since forever, but for some reason a lot of people seem to have trouble with that fitment. i don't know the wheel specs off the top of my head, but it worked with the original 8.2 and now i have a strange s60 and they still fit just fine.

Well I currently have 14" rally II with redline tires. Want to go to 15" wheels but dont know for sure what tire size I need. Don't want them rubbing on the front fender edge when I turn corners. thanks

255/60-15 is a good rear tire size, however the 8” wheels will need to have the correct backspace to fit properly. There’s not much room for error, those rear wheel wells are tight. If the wheels have 5-1/2” of backspace they should fit.
No way in the front, 255/60 is way too much tire and the 8” wheel is too wide. A 7” wheel (4.5” backspace) with a 235/60 is about as big as you can go. Cragar wheels almost in every instance have too little backspace on the 7” and 8” widths that might be good to use. They usually make them with 3-3/4” backspace which kicks the wheels out too far, they never fit without rubbing even with smaller size tires that you don’t want anyway.

If you are still in the Fort Worth area, I have a set of 4 15x7 Rally II wheels, the correct
5 x 4.75 bolt pattern, 2 with size P225/70 & 2 with size P235/70 BFG Radial T/A's, you could test mount just to get a feel for the look & fit. These were on my 66 GTO when I bought it years ago and I do not ever plan to use them, you are welcome to "borrow" them any time. I can meet you somewhere if you have any interest in this experiment, just PM me thru this site. Mike Pearson

Currently I have 215/75/15 tires that came on my car when I bought it. Next February I have plans to get new tires fitted.
They are 31"/18.5-15" |

well AlanmayO, the size you want is 215/65-15. Ihave new redline 225/70-15s on new 7" Cragers. The rears fit nice and fill the wells as I was hoping. However, the fronts rub on the outside rear. So now i have a new set of redlines that i can't use, and i have to buy 4 new redlines that'll fit!

They are available with much better back spacing 15X7 with 4.25" BS https://www.cragarwheel.com/wheels/p...l/series-610c/ Pretty much the same as the stock BS I believe ......
